General Summary of Position Assists supervisor, helping to ensure adequate materials/food supplies within the hospital. Performs all functions of materials handler as needed. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.Assures appropriate procedures are followed to assure the proper delivery of supplies and troubleshoots problems in the materials management system. In tandem with supervisor, takes action to correct deficiencies.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Ensures that warehouse/kitchen/storeroom is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion, ensuring the safety of staff working in the area (clear isles, safe storage of shelved items, etc.).In absence of supervisor/manager, guides and directs staff. Makes recommendations to supervisor for disciplinary action of staff when warranted. Assists in training, orienting, and assigning department staff. Assists in evaluating performance.Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.May be required to prepare, compare and/or check reports, records and other related data.Monitors inventory levels: corrects on hand stock quantities as indicated by cyclical counts. Assures that stock is on order if needed.Monitors inventory of non-stock gases and facilitates orders as needed.Prepares and maintains shipping records, makes up bills of lading, and other documentation for shipment of materials, parts, finished goods, and related items. Organizes and maintains records pertinent to stock levels, supply quantities issued, and other data. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.Receives incoming materials, supplies, and equipment and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment against purchase order. Inspects shipments for damages or defects, records discrepancies or damages in shipment, and notifies supervisor and patient financial service personnel.Uncrates and assembles equipment and ensures that patient care equipment has been properly labeled and inspected. Marks inventory articles with identification codes as needed.May assist/support food production or service teams.
Minimum Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or GED required or
- equivalent. required
Experience
- 1-2 years Related experience required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to perform mathematic calculations including addition, subtractions, multiplication and division.
- Verbal and written communications.
- Ability to read, comprehend and write the English language.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
