This position is responsible for providing general research support in the post-life laboratories. The Assistant Histology Technician, Anatomic Pathology must have a demonstrated understanding of scientific research and methods, proficiency in a limited set of laboratory techniques, and proven ability to work well within a team. This position will report directly to the Supervisor, Anatomic Pathology.
Key Responsibilities
Observe and execute activities consistent with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or Laboratory Methods, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations, and safety and health practices.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic study design and execution.
Execute key activities on a study following appropriate procedures.
Provide anatomic pathology services following appropriate procedures by collecting and processing tissues for histological diagnostic research, including
Gathering and reviewing experimental data including organ weights and anatomical changes
Trimming tissues
Embedding of tissues
Performing various staining techniques
Cover slipping tissues
Labeling slides and blocks

Demonstrates knowledge and application of standard scientific principles, theories, and concepts.
Ability to observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices requirements, and study protocols.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to include an N95 respirator or PAPR for extended periods of time.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Able to work overtime, weekends, holidays when necessary.
Demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer programs (e.g. MS Office Suite Products).
Demonstrated ability to learn new tasks.
Ability to work in an A/BSL-1 and 2 environments

This position is in a laboratory environment and requires significant physical exertion and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to):
Lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy objects (sometimes more than 50lbs.)
Clear vision with corrective lenses at 20 feet or more and ability to determine colors (no color blindness)
Respirator (varies based on tasks and barrier requirements)
Tyvek/scrub suits
Nitrile (or equivalent) gloves (varies based on tasks)
Immunizations are required for this position and are determined by the study/agent. Some examples include Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Smallpox, Polio, and Influenza
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree with 2 years of related experience, or
Bachelor's degree with 1 year experience.
Assistant - 1 year - experience from the college/university labs or entry level with college experience
