General Summary

This position is responsible for providing general research support in the post-life laboratories. The Senior Histology Technician, Anatomic Pathology must have a demonstrated understanding of scientific research and methods, proficiency in a limited set of laboratory techniques, proven ability to work well within a team, and demonstrate the ability to train junior team members on laboratory techniques. The position includes day to day task direction and ensures quality of the work completed. This position will report directly to the Supervisor, Anatomic Pathology.

Key Responsibilities

* Observe and execute activities consistent with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or Laboratory Methods, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations, and safety and health practices.

* Demonstrate knowledge of basic study design and execution.

* Execute key activities on a study following appropriate procedures.

* Provide anatomic pathology services following appropriate procedures by collecting and processing tissues for histological diagnostic research, including

o Trimming tissues

o Embedding and microtomy of tissues

o Mounting tissues on slides

o Performing various staining techniques

o Cover slipping tissues

o Labeling slides and blocks

o Performing quality checks on finished slides to determine acceptability

o Writing and updating SOPs as necessary and appropriate

o Training of less experienced team members on all relevant laboratory techniques

* Working with supervisor to develop technical staff including performance appraisals

* Work collaboratively with Project Management, Scientific Subject Matter Experts, Operations, and other staff to schedule, price, and otherwise support study initiation and execution.

* Organizing and leading a team of technicians to execute assigned studies

Position Specific

* Demonstrates knowledge and application of standard scientific principles, theories, and concepts.

* Ability to observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices requirements, and study protocols.

* Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to include an N95 respirator or PAPR for extended periods of time.

* Ability to work in a team environment.

* Able to work overtime, weekends, holidays when necessary.

* Demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer programs (e.g. MS Office Suite Products).

* Demonstrated ability to learn new tasks.

* Ability to work in an A/BSL-1 and 2 environment

This position is in a laboratory environment and requires significant physical exertion and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to):

* Lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy objects (sometimes in excess of 50lbs.)

* Clear vision with corrective lenses at 20 feet or more and ability to determine colors (no color blindness)

* Fine motor skills and manual dexterity

* Eye protection (safety glasses and/or full-face shield)

* Respirator (varies based on tasks and barrier requirements)

* Tyvek/scrub suits

* Nitrile (or equivalent) gloves (varies based on tasks)

Immunizations are required for this position and are determined by the study/agent. Some examples include Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Smallpox, Polio, and Influenza

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

* HT(ASCP) cm certification required

* Bachelor's degree with 3 years' experience.

* Sr 7 years - all certifications and ability to develop methods/SOPs, lead, train - HT required

Preferred Qualifications

* HTL(ASCP) certification preferred

* ALAT, LAT, or LATG preferred
