Over the last 20 years, the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) has distinguished itself as one of the fastest-growing art museums in North America. Founded in 1799, it is also the country's oldest continuously operating museum. Under supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, the Community Engagement Coordinator will support a cross-discipline team in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. The Community Engagement Coordinator supports Community Engagement at PEM by assisting in and supporting the development and implementation of community engagement, in-school, after-school, and public programming with administrative, logistical, and communications support, while bringing a positive attitude and energy to the work. They help to pursue strategic partnerships with local community organizations, to increase PEM's engagement with new audiences and strengthen initiatives to improve accessibility. The Community Engagement Coordinator works closely with the Community Engagement Manager to administratively support, develop and deliver programs for multiple audiences and communities. The Community Engagement Coordinator collaborates with and supports internal staff to help proactively grow community engagement partnerships, local networks, and programming. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in community engagement, preferably in the arts and with communities of all ages, including teens and elders. The Community Engagement Coordinator must possess the ability to interact with diverse audiences, in terms of age, economic status, and cultural/racial background. This role provides significant administrative support to Community Engagement initiatives, requiring strong organizational skills, an ability to collaborate, timely communication, and follow-through. Proficiency in a language other than English is valued with a knowledge of Spanish preferred. The hourly range for this role is $21.63 to $22.85 commensurate with experience.
