General Summary

This position is responsible for providing general research support in the post-life laboratories. The Senior Technician, Anatomic Pathology must have a demonstrated understanding of scientific research and methods, proficiency in a limited set of laboratory techniques, proven ability to work well within a team, and demonstrate the ability to train junior team members on laboratory techniques. The position includes day to day task direction and ensures quality of the work completed. This position will report directly to the Supervisor, Anatomic Pathology.

Key Responsibilities

* Observe and execute activities consistent with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or Laboratory Methods, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations, and safety and health practices.

* Demonstrate knowledge of basic study design and execution.

* Execute key activities on a study following appropriate procedures.

* Provide anatomic pathology services following appropriate procedures by collecting and processing tissues for histological diagnostic research, including

o Necropsy of both small and large animal species including non-human primates at animal biosafety levels 1, 2, or 3 as required;

o Collection of biological samples including samples for proteomic/genomic analysis and electron microscopy;

o Gathering and reviewing experimental data including organ weights and anatomical changes;

o Trimming tissues;

o Writing and updating SOPs as necessary and appropriate;

o Performing whole body perfusions on small and large animal species;

o Performing health checks on rodents;

o Training of less experienced team members on all relevant laboratory techniques

* Dependent on divisional resource availability, the Senior Necropsy Technician - Anatomic Pathology may be responsible for additional activities, including but not limited to:

o Performing maternal evaluations (laparohysterectomy) and teratology evaluations (fetal external, visceral, and skeletal morphology) in rodents and rabbits;

o Collecting samples and specimens at c-section and necropsy;

o Performing processing and examination of fetal skeletal specimens; and

o Providing Histology team support.

Position Specific

* Demonstrates knowledge and application of standard scientific principles, theories, and concepts.

* Ability to observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices requirements, and study protocols.

* Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to include an N95 respirator or PAPR for extended periods of time.

* Ability to work in a team environment.

* Able to work overtime, weekends, holidays when necessary.

* Demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer programs (e.g. MS Office Suite Products).

* Demonstrated ability to learn new tasks.

* This position requires the ability to meet all entry requirements, including medical and vaccination requirements for work in both an A/BSL-1, 2 & 3 laboratory environment. Immunizations are required for this position and are determined by the study/agent. Some examples include Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Smallpox, Polio, and Influenza.

* U.S. Person

This position is in a laboratory environment and requires significant physical exertion and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to):

* Standing, walking, or climbing for extended periods of time

* Lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy objects (sometimes in excess of 50lbs.)

* Perform repetitive and strenuous activities that require standing or Stooping/crouching by bending at waist or legs

* Clear vision with corrective lenses at 20 feet or more and ability to determine colors (no color blindness)

* Fine motor skills and manual dexterity

* Withstanding exposure to constant or intermittent high noise levels

* Eye protection (safety glasses and/or full-face shield)

* Respirator (varies based on tasks and barrier requirements)

* Tyvek/scrub suits

* Nitrile (or equivalent) gloves (varies based on tasks)

* Hearing protection (varies based on tasks)

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications :

* Bachelor's degree with 3 years' experience.

* Sr 7 years - all certifications and ability to develop methods/SOPs, lead, train

Preferred Qualifications

* ASCP (HT) certification preferred

* ALAT, LAT, or LATG preferred
