Job Description
Position Summary: The Director of the Student Health Center (SHC) at the University of Missouri is responsible for the strategic leadership, administration and operation of the Student Health Center, including the delivery of high-quality medical care for the student population. This position ensures the delivery of accessible and high-quality medical services that promote the physical health, academic success, and overall well-being of students. The Student Health Center operates under Student Health & Well-Being, a unit within the Division of Student Affairs. Student Health & Well-Being encompasses a comprehensive network of care that includes the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, Wellness Resource Center, and the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Center. As a visible leader within the Division of Student Affairs, the SHC Director collaborates closely with campus partners and leads initiatives to increase student utilization of the center. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Operations
- Provides strategic leadership and oversight for a team of over 46 administrative and clinical staff, with responsibility for recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluation
- Manages daily operations and administrative functions of SHC
- Supports development, measurement, and achievement of performance standards for quality and efficiency for services and ensures that areas of concern, such as student/patient complaints, are addressed
- Determines strategic, operational, and programmatic priorities that align with Student Affairs priorities and institutional goals
- Utilizes patient satisfaction data to drive care and service enhancement projects
- Fosters a supportive work environment that promotes staff well-being, professional development, and a culture of continuous learning
- Works closely with the assigned Division of Student Affairs Business Administration Manager to develop, monitor and manage the SHC budget, ensuring cost-effective service delivery and compliance with financial policies
- Leads the efforts of the SHC to further operationalize the integration of services and programs with Student Health and Well-Being, including working closely with the Director of the Counseling Center to provide coordinated mental/behavioral health and psychiatric services.
Supervision
- Directly supervises an Associate Director, Medical Director, Business Operations Associate, and an Executive Assistant
Clinical & Public Health Oversight
- Ensures compliance with the requirements of AAAHC, ethical codes, state and federal laws, and university, SHC, and applicable MU Health Care policies
- Ensures SHC maintains AAAHC accreditation
- Maintains a positive relationship with our academic medicine partners - including MU Health Care and the School of Medicine
- Supports development, measurement, and achievement of performance standards for quality and efficiency for services and ensures that areas of concern, such as student/patient complaints, are addressed
- Serve as a liaison to local and state health departments, and lead the center's response to public health concerns, including communicable disease outbreaks and emergency preparedness
Marketing, Outreach & Utilization Growth
- Use student data and demographic trends to identify gaps in utilization and tailor outreach efforts
- Collaborate with marketing and communications staff to develop and implement innovative, comprehensive outreach strategies that enhance the visibility of the Student Health Center and increase service utilization among undergraduate, graduate, and professional students
Assessment & Continuous Improvement
- Implement ongoing quality improvement and service evaluation processes, using student feedback, benchmarking data, and national standards (e.g., ACHA, NCHA).
- Partner with the Tiger Institute to be on the leading edge of new healthcare technologies that would appeal to our target demographic.
- Collaborate with the Division of Student Affairs Assessment Team to evaluate the pilot and long-term impact of new programs, services, and campaigns
- Prepare and present regular reports to university leadership on service utilization, satisfaction metrics, and health trends
Campus Collaboration & Student Engagement
- Engages with students, student leaders, and student organizations to gather feedback, address health care needs, and improve perceptions of SHC services.
- Incorporates student input into strategic planning and decision-making to ensure responsive, high-quality care
- Partners with key campus units-including Mizzou Rec, Counseling Center, Housing, Disability Center, and Wellness Resource Center-to promote integrated, holistic health and wellness initiatives
- Collaborates with academic units on health-related research, clinical training opportunities, and evidence-based practice initiatives
- Represents the Student Health Center on university committees and at Summer Welcome, campus events, and student forums to enhance visibility, trust, and collaboration across the campus community
- Ensures SHC staff are well-trained and in alignment with the Division's TIGERS learning framework
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a master's degree in relevant study or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
- Seven or more years of directly related experience
- Previous health administration experience is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive leadership experience in healthcare administration
- Demonstrated success in health promotion, marketing, and student engagement initiatives
- Experience working in a college or university health setting
- Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance, confidentiality laws (HIPAA, FERPA), and accreditation standards
- Proven ability to manage budgets, lead teams, and navigate a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
Anticipated Hiring Range
Hiring Range: $130,000 - $170,000 per year, paid on a monthly basis. Grade Level: HMP B University Title: DIR, STUDENT HEALTH CENTER Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
