The Hemberg group, part of the Gene Lay Institute at the department of neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the department of immunology at Harvard Medical School in Boston (https://hemberg-lab.github.io/) is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow. This location offers unique opportunities in terms of scientific collaborations in a highly dynamic and interdisciplinary environment.
The group's research area is computational genomics and although the main focus is methods development and analysis for single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics. We are looking for people with an interest in computational or mathematical biology. Those with a background in related areas such as computer science, physics, chemistry, statistics and mathematics are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills, ideally with a thorough understanding of genomics, statistics and machine learning. Good programming skills along with high motivation are also desired. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Initiate research projects in computational biology, carry them out, and write up manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals 2. Maintain current best programming practices while developing approaches to manage and analyze large datasets. 3. Collaborate with other researchers both within and outside the group. 4. Supervise rotation students and other junior trainees. Doctoral degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, biology or related discipline preferred, experience in genomics and immunology is desired but not required.
