Overview

Distribution Engineering is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its SCADA team. With the rapid expansion of SCADA technology, this role presents an excellent opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the efficiency, reliability, and safety of the electric distribution system. The ideal candidate will be energetic and demonstrate a strong commitment to the company's Code of Conduct and The Way We Work.The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing development and improvement of the Distribution SCADA System. The primary goal is to enhance the flexibility and operational performance of the distribution network. The Senior Engineer will lead technical evaluations, review equipment specifications and designs, and support the deployment of SCADA systems across various electric distribution applications. As SCADA usage increases, the engineer will be tasked with specifying, testing, and approving new equipment to meet evolving needs.A strong understanding of control systems and communication protocolsparticularly DNP3is essential for this role. The Senior Engineer will work closely with internal teams to conduct lab testing, develop performance criteria, and troubleshoot operational issues. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required, as is the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.Additional responsibilities include managing engineering projects for SCADA system upgrades, performing field inspections, reviewing installation designs, preparing technical standards, and developing construction estimates and schedules. The engineer will conduct detailed studies and analyses, evaluate emerging technologies, and support capital budget planning. They will also play a key role in training field personnel, providing guidance on installation procedures, and addressing operational or maintenance issues involving Unit Substation Automation and Distribution Automation Systems.The Senior Engineer will lead efforts in failure analysis, data review, and issue resolution. They will develop and execute test plans, analyze new designs and vendor solutions, and bring forward engineering recommendations. Acting as a technical consultant, the engineer will apply their expertise to develop equipment improvements, review manufacturer designs and fabrication processes, and ensure alignment with company standards and environmental regulations.In times of emergency, the Senior Engineer must be prepared to provide immediate engineering support and take on a leadership role in resolving field issues. The role may also require the preparation and delivery of technical training or seminars related to distribution system practices. Overall, this is a critical position for someone eager to apply their skills to strengthen the SCADA infrastructure and support the continued advancement of the electric distribution system.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Join Distribution Engineerings SCADA team as a highly motivated professional contributing to the expansion and optimization of SCADA technology across the electric distribution system.
  • Support and ensure full implementation of the companys safety, health, and environmental programs for all assigned personnel.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and environmental protection in alignment with company policies and applicable regulations.

  • Provide technical support to Electric Operations teams for troubleshooting and resolving operational or maintenance issues involving SCADA systems.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analyses and perform lab testing on new designs, failed equipment, vendor products, and emerging technologies.
  • Travel to field locations as necessary to support testing, troubleshooting, and equipment evaluations.
  • Perform engineering studies and calculations to define and improve SCADA system performance criteria.
  • Collaborate effectively in team-based environments, particularly during technical evaluations and laboratory testing activities.
  • Deliver timely, data-driven insights through ad-hoc analytics to support event investigations and executive-level summaries.
  • Develop and issue comprehensive root cause analysis reports and document test results.
  • Create and implement test plans for engineering teams and field crews to validate SCADA system performance and functionality.
  • Partner with field crews to identify and resolve SCADA equipment issues in real time.
  • Recommend and support strategies to prevent and mitigate the recurrence of system events or equipment failures.
  • Respond to emergency calls from operational departments and make informed decisions within the scope of engineering responsibility.
  • Design, develop, and test communication protocols for new SCADA equipment supporting distribution system operations.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Cost Management teams to generate and monitor purchase orders related to SCADA equipment and services.
  • Perform technical evaluations and assessments of SCADA system components and designs.
  • Foster and maintain a work environment that emphasizes professionalism, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and accountability.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or Electrical Engineering and with 8 years of engineering work experience or
  • Master's Degree Engineering or Electrical Engineering and with 6 years of engineering work experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • Able to thrive in a highly collaborative environment and work closely with engineers on lab testing and system evaluations. Required
  • Experienced in the implementation, modification, and support of SCADA and control systems. Required
  • Possesses a solid understanding of control systems and communication technologies used in automation. Required
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, interpersonal, presentation, and both written and verbal communication skills. Required
  • Familiar with the DNP3 communication protocol used in SCADA systems. Required
  • Knowledgeable about low-voltage electrical distribution equipment. Required

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
