GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides direct and indirect patient care as determined/delegated by the Anesthesia Manager, Anesthesia Coordinator or Anesthesia providers. Assists with tasks necessary for the general management and organization of Anesthesia services, based upon meeting patient and Anesthesia needs. Performs duties under the supervision of a licensed Anesthesia provider in the acquisition, preparation and application of the equipment and supplies required for administration of anesthesia. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Performs surgical preps as ordered by physician. 3. *Transports blood products, specimens, supplies and equipment. 4. *Cleans operating rooms, anesthesia equipment and workroom, and anesthesia storage rooms per protocol. 5. *Stocks anesthesia carts and machines per protocol. 6. *Delivers anesthesia medications and anesthetic agents to anesthesia providers as needed. 7. *Performs high-level disinfection on re-useable equipment and reports malfunction equipment to appropriate personnel. 8. *Assists the Anesthesia provider and Nurse Anesthetist in all phases of patient care in the operating room and out of department areas. Assists the anesthesia provider during insertion of anesthesia lines and airways. 9. *Sets up, performs safety checks, and maintains anesthesia machines and monitors following manufacturer instructions. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of surgical preparations activities, equipment and supplies. 2. Knowledge of anesthesia equipment and supplies. 3. Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations. 4. Knowledge of basic mathematics, anatomy and physiology that apply to anesthesia care. 5. Knowledge of the different between general, regional and monitored anesthesia care. 6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 7. Ability to respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations. 8. Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, patients and physicians. 9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 12. Ability to practice precautions when dealing with environmental hazards based on facility policies, procedures and MSDS information. 13. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 14. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety. 15. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency required. Prior experience in a medical or operating room environment preferred. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required per Manager's discretion. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Completion of an anesthesia technician trainee program within two years of hire per Manager's discretion. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objectives. |
