Job Description

The Office of English Learner Services is seeking experienced educators to serve as causal employees to support new student registration and assessment at the ACPS EL Office. This position requires in-person attendance, and in limited cases, flexible working hours. The position reports to the ACPS EL Testing Specialist.

Note: Selected candidates will likely be offered hourly work, as needs surface and may not have consistent work. Qualified candidates who are trainable, and who are available when a high volume of new student registration and assessment tasks occur. Live close to work location perferred, as number of hours may very. Local retired educators are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities:



  • Administering English language proficiency screener assessments to students registering for school who have a primary language other than English in the home.


  • Assisting new families with the new student registration process.


  • Scoring student work products.


  • Performing basic data entry tasks.


  • Organizing professional development opportunities for teachers.


  • Supporting EL Office staff with curriculum development.



Qualifications:



  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.


  • Certifcation/Licenses: Teaching license not required, but perferred.


  • Experience: Working with linguistically and culturally diverse families and students.



Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must be able to:



  • Administer EL assessments with fidelity to the test protocol.
  • Work in a high-paced work environment and use excellent judgment
  • Operate standard office equipment including computer applications.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate effectively with linguistically and culturally diverse families.
  • Consistently provide positive customer service and collaborate in a fast-paced environment
  • Learn and adhere to division protocols.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other team members.
  • Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds of students.
  • Use verbal and paralinguistic skills.
  • Determine and assess confidential material, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Access reliable transportation to travel to schools, if needed.


Must have knowledge of:



  • Business telephone, email, and customer service etiquette
  • Concepts of grammar and punctuation
  • Microsoft Office suite applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Google Workspace, including Drive, Sheets, Docs, Calendar and Mail



Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.


Public Health Compliance



  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
