About the Job

The Undergraduate Office of Admissions is seeking a highly motivated, focused, and results-oriented Senior Admissions Counselor (9702AN job code) OR Assistant Director - Admissions (9703AN job code) who will serve as a key contact for prospective students, both freshman and transfer, interested in the School of Nursing. This position represents the University of Minnesota and the School of Nursing to prospective students, prospective student families, and high school officials while providing customer service to prospective students from a variety of geographical locations.

This is a 100%, full-time, 12-month, on-campus, annually renewable appointment in the academic professional and administrative (P&A) personnel series. Most work is conducted during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. However, evening and weekend work is occasionally required, as necessary, to properly execute the duties of this role. Occasional remote work may be accommodated at the discretion of the Office of Admissions when such remote work is in the interest of the University.

Based on qualifications and experience, this person will be hired into the appropriate job code / position. Must be eligible to work in the United States; this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.

Duties and Responsibilities

Freshman & Transfer Recruitment (35%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective first-year and transfer students interested in pursuing Nursing at the U of M.
  • Recruit and facilitate enrollment of high achieving and underrepresented prospective School of Nursing students.
  • Participate and assist with the execution of SoN recruitment via targeted calling campaigns to encourage students to attend on-campus events and visits.

Application Review & Office of Admissions Support (25%)

  • Provide admissions counseling and extra-mile customer service to prospective freshman and transfer students.
    • Manage and respond to all freshman and transfer SoN inquiries, including phone calls, emails, text messages, calling campaigns, etc.
  • Evaluate academic and other credentials for admission decision and counseling purposes for both freshman and transfer SoN applicants

Campus Visit Coordination (20%)

  • Proactively plan and execute specialized visits to create a memorable experience for students by following a strategic visit model created by the Office of Admissions and the School of Nursing.
  • Collaborate with SoN to plan, facilitate, and execute campus visits for students.
    • Oversee and group of current SoN student ambassadors to assist in recruitment activities

Yield & Enrollment Project Support (10%)

  • Identify top students to recommend for merit and need-based scholarships aligned with the enrollment goals of SoN.
  • Use data and personal student relationships to inform SoN of important information and impactful recruitment efforts.
  • Special projects as assigned by the School of Nursing and the Office of Admissions, based on personal strengths or abilities.

Assistant Director Additional Duties (10%):

  • Work to understand the changing student landscape and pivot recruitment plans as needed
  • Interpret data and provide suggestions for implementing changes or new ideas
  • Guide conversations in best recruitment practices and assist in training new staff with their onboarding proces
  • Assess overall recruitment plans and think big picture about college needs; create both long term planning and adjust plans as needed
  • Represent the Office of Admissions in university-wide and external stakeholder committees
  • Act as a leader and content expert for other admissions counselors in the office.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Sr Admissions Counselor (9702AN): BA/BS degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or master's degree OR
  • Asst Director (9703AN) - BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience, or master's degree plus two years of relevant experience.

AND

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering the University's mission of an inclusive and welcoming University community
  • Must have a valid driver's license; must be able to travel regionally or nationally for extended periods
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking skills and experience.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines, make decisions according to policies and procedures, and exercise judgment in recommending procedural changes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in college admissions and recruitment or a closely related unit such as campus tours, orientation, college access community based organizations or
    other direct work with student outreach and enrollment.
  • Event planning or project management experience.
  • University of Minnesota experience defined broadly such as former student, graduate, employee, or community member of any campus.
  • Demonstrated experience with Technolutions Slate.
About the Department

The mission of the Office of Admissions is to take leadership in recruiting and enrolling undergraduate students who will benefit from and contribute to the University of Minnesota scholarly community. The Office of Admissions coordinates undergraduate student enrollment efforts and collaborates campus-wide with colleges, departments, and the units within the Office of Enrollment Management to meet the University's enrollment goals. The Office of Admissions serves prospective undergraduate students, and incoming undergraduate students.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:

Sr Admissions Counselor (9702AN) - $50,000 - $55,000 OR

Asst Director - Admissions (9703AN) - $55,000 - $60,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 100% Appointment, 12 month
