Assumes leadership responsibilities for the Center City dosimetry team and at the Enterprise-wide level. Generates 2D/3D/IMRT/VMAT treatment plans for patients undergoing external beam radiation therapy. Assists with advanced treatment planning including adaptive planning, MR-Linac planning, and multi-lesion radiosurgery planning. Assists all staff with clinical dosimetry issues. Assists in the implementation of new treatment planning techniques. Provides dosimetry instruction for medical staff, residents, medical students, and radiation therapy technology students.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Leads the Center City dosimetry team, including scheduling, oversight of challenging treatment planning cases, implementation of advanced treatment planning practices, and championing of process improvement initiatives.
  • Is part of the Enterprise-wide dosimetry leadership team, and organizes educational initiatives, coordinates dosimetry research involvement, and fosters the harmonization of practices across the Jefferson network.
  • Uses pertinent radiation oncology software, including Eclipse, Mosaiq, and MIM Software.
  • Generates treatment plans using 2D, 3D, IMRT, or VMAT techniques, by means of computer and/or manual computation, that will deliver a radiation dose prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist to a defined tumor volume.
  • Participates in department quality assurance measures and practices.
  • Coordinates pre-treatment procedures and tumor localization, including CT and MRI when indicated, for radiation treatment planning and patient specific quality assurance.
  • Records data in the record and verify system in a clear and concise manner.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Assists with clinical research problems involving dosimetry, equipment, or treatment procedures.
  • Contributes to dosimetry planning for advanced modalities (e.g., Ethos adaptive planning, MR-Linac planning, and multi-lesion radiosurgery planning).
  • Assesses and resolves remote dosimetry issues or contacts responsible parties.
  • Assists with dosimetry across the Radiation Oncology Enterprise as needed, including remote treatment planning for other locations.
  • Assumes responsibility for fast track/urgent or more difficult cases.
  • Checks patient charts for accuracy of recorded information prior to treatment.
  • Interacts with physicists in addressing difficult / unusual clinical planning problems.
  • Keeps current on new treatment planning techniques, devices and methods.
  • Maintains billing for patient treatment plans.
  • May be involved in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.
  • Participates in the instruction of physician residents, physics residents, physicists, fellows, student therapists, student dosimetrists and other trainees in clinical dosimetry.
  • Provides technical assistance to the medical physicist when requested in radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations and quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Presents issues / difficulties in the dosimetry section with clarity / calmness and offers solutions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a basic science or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in radiologic technology.

AND

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of relevant clinical experience in medical dosimetry preferred.
  • Experience with IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy) treatment planning is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SBRT (Stereotactic-Body Radiation Therapy) treatment planning is highly desirable.
  • Experience with IGRT (Image-Guided Radiation Therapy) and Multi-Modality treatment planning is highly desirable. Experience with VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) treatment planning is highly desirable.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

  • Certification in Dosimetry (CMD) required.
