Purpose of Job

The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for the support of all purchasing functions. The Purchasing Specialist will provide end users and other Materials Management team members information regarding orders, products, and returns.

Job Functions


  1. Responsible for preparation and placement of purchase orders (from requisition to invoicing).
  2. Maintains Materials Management Information System (MMIS) to ensure information contained is complete and accurate regarding item information, pricing and delivery dates and times.
  3. Communicates with the internal and external customers regarding any relevant product changes or delivery delays using various communication methods (verbal and written).
  4. Works with the Senior Buyer to access information pertinent to contracts affecting Ridgeview Medical Center.
  5. Assists internal and external customers with product returns, recalls, backorders and repairs.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

When assigned to a specific department and/or service line:


  1. Maintains location/department specific inventory lists and ensure supplies are kept at appropriate levels and in proper condition.
  2. Checks, identifies and processes damaged, recalled, and expired products.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience


  • High School Graduate

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Ability to make decisions independently to meet the end user's needs.
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence to complete job functions as mentioned above.
  • Familiarity and experience with computers in an office setting.
  • Intermediate level of expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point etc.)
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous purchasing experience in a medical field
  • Familiar with computerized purchasing system

Compensation

Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation such as: the requirements of the position, experience, education, knowledge, and skills along with location and internal equity. Pay listed does not include any shift, weekend, or other differentials.
