Job Summary

The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately 1 year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply professional concepts to conduct moderate to complex financial or resource analysis for evaluating past, present, and future performance and/or resource allocations.

  • Perform complex financial/resource research and analysis for internal department stakeholders.

  • Complete monthly budget status reports for 50-60 funds to:

    • Review revenue and expenses

    • Identify, research, and correct errors

    • Address potential compliance issues

    • Proactively identify and manage financial risks

  • Manage a variety of fund types, including affiliation agreement, professional fee, discretionary, gift, and extramural funds supporting clinical and educational programs.

  • Prepare, review, and/or approve financial transactions, including General Ledger journal entries and UC Path funding entries, ensuring accurate payroll allocations and expense classifications.

  • Calculate and process faculty moonlighting payments.

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to protect University resources.

  • Document financial procedures and maintain the department's chart of accounts.

  • Provide analytical support for complex financial/resource analysis projects for the Director of Finance and Administration.

  • Develop moderately complex financial models to forecast future operating expenses and assess the financial feasibility of increased spending.

  • Gather, analyze, and summarize recommendations for financial/resource planning and implement department budget allocations.

  • Assist in developing the division's annual consolidated budget and update it quarterly in the Plus system.

  • Help prepare Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with external partners.

  • Collaborate with various internal and external partners, including:

    • ZSFG Psychiatry division administrative team

    • Chair's office

    • UCSF Deans' office at ZSFG

    • UCSF Controller's Office

    • UCSF Office of Sponsored Research

    • UCSF Supply Chain Management

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. Ability to manage significant volume of transactions. Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting. Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas. Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsors guidelines.
