Position Title: Paralegal

Business Unit: Legal

Reports to: Paralegal Manager

Position Overview:

This position is primarily responsible for the handling of garnishments, subpoenas, manage Legal Department mailbox and review various court and miscellaneous legal documents and process routine legal matters. The incumbent assists the Senior Paralegal with a variety of complex legal matters, including new branch expansions and acquisitions and assist in company's insurance claims handling process.

Primary Responsibilities:

Processes subpoenas including logging all subpoenas and completing the appropriate research request forms for processing to Deposition Operations. Responsible for review and preparation of documentation for delivery to the appropriate outside party in response to the subpoena, as well as communication with outside counsel concerning any issues related to the subpoena.

Processes garnishments including logging all garnishments, looking up customer accounts, placing freezes on accounts and taking other actions necessary to restrict customer access to accounts and preparing correspondence to customers. Also responsible to prepare certain court documents for review, approval and execution by in-house Corporate Counsel.

Assists in management of the Legal Department mailbox and assists the corporation's in-house Corporate Counsel and Senior Paralegal with various routine legal matters as they are presented therein, including company's insurance claims handling process.

Reviews various court documents and assists Retail Support and branch personnel with regard to such court documents. Reviews Powers of Attorneys and trust documentation for specific language and authority related to deposit accounts and loan documentation.

Assists with the preparation and filing of various regulatory applications related to bank mergers and acquisitions, branch purchases, new branch openings and branch closings.

Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
