Cost Controls Specialist

Overview:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Cost Controls Specialist manages budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting for digital capital projects. You will ensure compliance with GAAP, maintains internal controls, and facilitate communication between project management, accounting, and finance teams.

Main responsibilities include preparing variance reports, leading financial review meetings, developing models, and supporting audits. You bring, industry experience in utilities or construction, and proficiency in financial systems and tools.

This position is onsite in Mineral, VA, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.

Your Day-to-Day:

• Manage the annual budget, monthly forecasts, and rider filing data for digital capital projects.
• Prepare monthly variance reports and financial summaries for assigned projects.
• Apply GAAP principles to month-end liabilities and reporting.
• Implement and maintain internal control procedures.
• Guide communication between project management, accounting, and finance teams.
• Create models to summarize large datasets.
• Lead periodic meetings at project or station locations to review financial performance and project status.

• Independently resolve complex financial and project-related issues.
• Organize and combine technical, schedule, and cost data to support decision-making.
• Support internal audits and compliance reviews.

Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

• High School Diploma required.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in cost control, budgeting, or financial analysis. (5+ years preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.)
• Experience in Nuclear, Construction, Manufacturing, or Utility sectors.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including advanced formulas and modeling).
• Experience with SAP and Power Query.
• Familiarity with financial systems and reporting tools.
