The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia's College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, seeks applications for a full-time laboratory technician to support the research of Dr. Katja Kasimatis. The Kasimatis Lab studies the evolutionary genomics of sexual conflict using the Caenorhabditis nematode model system (www.conflictgenomics.com). The technician will work directly with Dr. Kasimatis to support research in the lab located in the Physical Life Sciences Building. They will assist with maintaining the lab nematode strains, generating preliminary data, and supporting the lab's research projects. The preferred candidate will have experience in animal husbandry and/or molecular biology. Qualified candidates must have: Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience. Physical Demands: This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation. This onsite position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $18.00 to $19.50 per hour commensurate with education and experience. This is a NON-EXEMPT level, benefited position.
