Position Summary The Signed Language Interpreting Program is looking for a qualified visiting lecturer beginning in the Fall semester of the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful The CCIE-accredited Signed Language Interpreting Program offers a B.S. Degree in Signed Language Interpreting. The mission of the Signed Language Interpreting Program is to prepare entry level interpreters and transliterators with a thorough understanding of the practice and ethics of the interpreting profession within a liberal arts environment. We emphasize cultural awareness, foster intellectual growth, and encourage academic excellence. In keeping with the mission of the Department of Linguistics, the program "encourages faculty and student involvement as advocates and participants in outreach to the linguistic communities in which we carry out research." Instilling respect for the language and communication preferences of all deaf and hard of hearing people is an essential value of our program. UNM is the state's flagship research university as well as a Hispanic-Serving Institution classified as a Carnegie Research University with Highest Research Activity. UNM also has strong connections with 23 tribal nations located within New Mexico. As such, successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly diverse student and community populations. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * B.A. or B.S. in Signed Language Interpreting, Education, Deaf Education or a closely related field. * National certification in ASL/English interpreting as evidenced through the submitted CV Preferred Qualifications: * Experience teaching ASL/English interpreting courses, including theory and skills courses, and/or American Sign Language courses as evidenced through the submitted CV, cover letter and/or letters of recommendation. * Teaching or practical experience with Trilingual or Indigenous interpreting as evidenced through the submitted CV, cover letter and/or letters of recommendation. * Teaching or practical experience with tactile or Protactile interpreting as evidenced through the submitted CV, cover letter and/or letters of recommendation. * Documented experience supervising interpreters and/or student interpreters as evidenced through the submitted CV, cover letter and/or letters of recommendation. * Experience or training with Learning Management System(s) (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.), and multimedia course design, as evidenced through the teaching statement. * Bicultural; ability to interact comfortably in deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing communities as evidenced through the letters of recommendation. * Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues as evidenced through the letters of recommendation. * A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities as evidenced through the submitted CV and/or letters of recommendation.
