About the Position The PC/LAN Technician Sr. is responsible for providing the highest level of technical expertise while maintaining software and hardware service for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. This position performs complex analytical, technical, and administrative work in the troubleshooting, planning, design, and installation of new and existing PC/LAN systems. May be responsible for training, monitoring, and assigning work to a small number of technical support staff. Experience
- Associate degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
And
Experience
- Five (5) years of troubleshooting and maintaining PC/Server software, hardware, and applications experience.
OR
Combined education and experience qualifications
- An equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may be substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-per-year basis
Other requirements:
- You must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or can obtain a license by the time of hire.
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass an extensive background review.

- CompTIA A+ certification and/or Network + certification.

Essential Job Tasks
- Troubleshoots and resolves advanced or highly technical hardware problems including PCs, Laptops, monitors, printers, and other peripheral equipment.
- Troubleshoots and resolves highly complex software problems including software installations, updates, and maintenance.
- Troubleshoots LAN connectivity problems.
- TroubleshootsWireless Network connectivity problems.
- Completes non-routine work orders and moves/adds/changes requests with little or no guidance, including patches, upgrades, software deployments, installations.
- Communications require technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Works in conjunction with the MCSO Service Desk to prioritize and manage support calls.
- Manages Service Desk queue using Service Desk ticketing application.
- Manages priorities for support calls and scheduled installations of hardware and software to ensure their timely completion.
- Maintains high level of communication with customers to schedule hardware and software installation/support calls.
- Confers with end users to determine the types of hardware and software required.
- Distributes appropriate support calls to hardware maintenance vendors and application developers as appropriate.
- Writes programs to fulfill requirements or selects appropriate off-the-shelf software then modifies them to suit Office needs.
- Maintains inventory of personal computers (PCs), peripherals, and spare parts using Information Technology Asset Management ITAM software.
- Develops and/or modifies documentation and knowledge base articles.
- May be responsible for training, supervising, and assigning work to other IT staff, although not primarily a function of this position
- Performs back-ups of user profiles and data.
- Trains users in utilization of equipment and provide end-users with technical and hardware solutions.
- Acts as technical support on crucial projects and functions as an escalation point for complex technology issues as assigned by Commander/Supervisor.
- Must be able to provide high level technical expertise and work under limited supervision on many complex, analytical, technical, and administrative solutions while participating in the planning and installation of new and existing personal computer systems and LANs
- Must be able to operate independently and as a member of technically diverse teams
- Provides exceptional customer service when interacting with user community daily.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of:
- Dell computers, HP printers, and other peripheral equipment.
- Overall computer operations procedures, operating systems and platforms required (Windows 10/11) at the expert level.
- Current techniques and capabilities of personal computers, local area networks and wide area networks including commercial mobile broadband connectivity, multi-factor authentication and VPN Administration at the expert level.
- Software such as: MS Office365, NetMotion VPN, RSA Multi-factor Authentication, TraCS, Hexagon/Intergraph Mobile for Public Safety, Microsoft MDT, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Powershell and MS Batch scripting, Microsoft embedded and third-party Web Browsers, etc. at the intermediate to expert level.
- Hardware such as laptops, tablets and desktop docking stations, USB scanners, internal/external mobile broadband modems, mobile USB printers, etc. at intermediate to expert level.
- Wireless Network Configuration and Setup.
- Motherboards, CPU's, DVD/CD-RW's, printers, and other hardware at the intermediate level to expert level.
- Virtualization and VDI technologies, including setting up, configuring, deploying, and supporting VDI.
- Meet key performance indicators for infrastructure, user experience, applications, storage, servers, and network components related to VDI, escalating outcomes appropriately.

- Work on automating system procedures and processes to evolve technology in our organization.
- Work in a ticketing system to solve escalated issues.
- Contribute to the knowledge base for troubleshooting and maintaining the environment.
- Provide documentation, processes, and technical training to service desk and lower-level team members.
- Contribute to on-call escalation to provide 24x7 support.
