Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Client Services Financial Supervisor, act as the VMTH representative in managing hospital charges. Independently perform a detailed review of patient medical record to ensure patient examination, procedures, diagnostics, hospitalization, ICU and nursing charges are entered accurately for services rendered, prior to patients discharge. Provide support to Client Services Financial Supervisor in managing accounts receivables through solving discrepancies and providing recommendation of a means to ensure payment at time of service. This includes working with monthly statements and collection processes.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Experience reviewing/reconciling medical records verifying procedures, diagnostics, testing, pharmaceuticals, and treatments; documenting services to be billed, and ensuring input prior to discharge.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving hospitalization charge discrepancies by independently identifying charges that have not been accurately billed.
  • Experience assessing and recognizing emergency situations, difficult/unpleasant situations and/or individuals and skills to take the appropriate action.
  • Experience to include answering phones, taking messages and assisting clients. Experience using electronic medical records, scheduling, admissions, cashiering policies and procedures affecting services, clients, and confidentiality of records and information.
  • Knowledge to discuss medical cases with clinicians and inform clinicians of items to bill or discrepancies in services vs. billing.
  • Ability to verify clinicians' orders are equal to services provided.
  • Math skills and basic analytical skills to review and correct data, prepare and proofread correspondence, reports, and informational documents, including the use of various programs and software for word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, entry and retrieval of medical records, and database management programs such as Word and Excel and interpersonal communication and customer services skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, perspectives to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, make referrals, and interact with the general public in a helpful and positive manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with filing alphabetically, numerically, and use a terminal digit filing system preferred.
  • Experience relaying/receiving medical/technical information via phone or electronic messages, prepare correspondence, reports, and informational documents.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental VMTH services and standards for admissions, records, billing, disease processes, scientific terms and processes.
  • Knowledge of small animal clinic procedure codes. Knowledge of animal anatomy, and medical terminology to ensure appropriate patient billing and the ability to troubleshoot.

  • 60% - Medical Record Review - Charge Capturing
  • 30% - Customer Service for Billing and Daily Deposits / Bank Reconciliations.
  • 10% - Specialty Coordinator(s) or Client Service Back-up Support or Team Support

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work Environment
