Summary
Provide professional guidance, coordination, and oversight of contractor performance for interior design projects within Missouri Student Unions, encompassing up to 400,000 square feet of designated and multi-use space across two buildings. These facilities include meeting and conference rooms, dining venues, offices, and lounges. Also responsible for managing annual project expenditures of $500,000 to $1 million and providing ongoing furniture support for centrally scheduled classrooms and computer labs.

Essential Functions
Manage and coordinate interior design projects from planning through completion, ensuring alignment with project goals, budgets, and timelines.

Create and prepare drafts, color schemes, and preliminary plans for interiors; select appropriate furniture, finishes, and furnishing for interior projects. Ensure interior design conveys desired look and feel appropriate to each specific zone, operational area, and office within the student centers, including meeting and conference rooms, and lounge areas while also creating transitional continuity throughout.

Select appropriate furniture and finishes for centrally scheduled classrooms and computer labs. Provide furniture solutions for students with accessibility needs. Verify classrooms presets are maintained and furniture is functioning as intended.

Create written specifications required for bid documents. Evaluate and/or approve alternate product specifications when submitted for the purchase of furniture, casework, signage and finish materials. Maintain accurate records and confirm order entry and shipping dates. Communicate timelines to management or other interested parties, including estimated delivery and installation dates that may impact project completion.

Provide cost estimates of interior design projects. Outline line-item costs and provide options when presenting estimates to decision-makers.

Evaluate work of outside contractors in the installation of equipment, flooring, furnishings, wall and window treatment, etc. for compliance with contract documents and appropriate codes. Provide updates to the Director regarding progress/problems.

Additional Responsibilities
Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
Maintain up-to-date floorplans for each facility and classrooms.
Identify and assess warranties for broken and/or damaged furniture, casework, materials and finishes.
Maintain updated knowledge and skills, and proficiency in use of software programs.
Participate in professional organizations, educational conferences, etc. to maintain and improve professional competence.

Supervision Received (as defined by MU)
Administrative supervision is received from Director or other designated supervisor.

Supervision Exercised (as defined by MU)
Functional supervision is exercised over 1-2 non-exempt support staff.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and move heavy furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.
Duties imply the use of a computer and other office technology involving fine finger movements.
Communicate orally and in writing with various audiences.
Visual perception sufficient to distinguish color hues and patterns.
Must be able to work varying hours as required.
Ability to travel is required.

Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in interior design, or an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired, is necessary.
Experience in specialized design software is desirable.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000 yearly

Grade: GGS-9E
