Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Central Services Teacher - Home & Hospital (Special Education) candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

A Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Central Services Teacher - Home & Hospital teacher provides instruction in a home or hospital setting for students with serious medical or psychological conditions that preclude them from physically attending in a school building even with alternative options. Home and Hospital teachers will provide instruction which is appropriate to their educational needs and developmental level. The Central Service Teacher - Home & Hospital teacher supports the MPS Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

Eligible candidates must have:

  • A valid, special education teaching license (1810, 1811, 1830, or 1801) in one of the following developmental levels: middle childhood/early adolescence, early adolescence/adolescence, or early childhood/adolescence.
  • At least five (5) years of fully licensed experience as an elementary, middle or high school special education teacher.
  • Reliable transportation with valid WI driver's license - travel to and from student homes/hospitals/schools occurs daily
Responsibilities

  • Maintains a broad knowledge of all facets related to the teaching assignment relative to the subject and grade level of the students. Uses research-proven practices to improve student achievement.
  • Prepares students to meet Wisconsin academic standards, particularly in the areas of Math and English Language Arts.
  • Incorporates the learning targets and the goals of the district as approved by the Board of School Directors. Implements Board policies as necessary to improve the educational environment.
  • Home and Hospital special education teacher attends all IEP and re-evaluation meetings for students currently enrolled in the Home and Hospital program. Home and Hospital Special Education Teacher consults with school-based IEP team members regarding IEP development.
  • Home and Hospital special education teacher will consult with the school-based IEP team to write IEPS that meet DPIs compliance standards and are designed to support the educational progress of students with disabilities.
  • Plans and organizes material for instruction and presents and reinforces lessons as appropriate for students confined to their home or hospital setting.
  • For all students on their caseload, the Home and Hospital special education teacher works with the classroom teachers and support staff at the student's school of origin to obtain instructional.
  • Provides instruction to students in their home, medical daycare, or hospital setting.
  • Evaluates student progress on a continuous basis and provides feedback to students, parents and appropriate staff members. Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by state law and Board policies.
  • Addresses different learning modalities, including auditory, visual and kinesthetic.
  • Uses appropriate positive behavioral support strategies and relates well to the student population in the home/or hospital setting.
  • Refers students for additional services as needed.
  • Attends special education evaluation meetings as needed for students receiving special education services.
  • Participates in staff development programs, staff meetings and extra-curricular activities. Attends educational conventions and conferences to learn and discuss new methodologies for teaching.
  • Creates and maintains a positive working relationship with open and ongoing communications with school staff on behalf of students.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date case notes for each student assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this position starts at $52,827.70 and increases according to a set salary schedule which is based on years' of work experience as a fully licensed teacher/pupil services educator in a K-12 setting and education beyond a bachelor's degree.

Salary range: $52,827.70 - 99,937.66 (191-day teacher calendar)
