Mechanical Engineer (Space Force)

$87.50 per hour
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Location: On-site | Scottsdale, AZ
Role and Position Objectives:
As a Mechanical Engineer in our Scottsdale facility, you will provide engineering oversight and support for the development, documentation, and manufacturing of mechanical systems-primarily focused on rackmount and transit case assemblies for lab and operational environments. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring quality, consistency, and technical integrity across designs and builds. From PDM documentation to cable routing and component integration, your attention to detail and collaborative approach will directly contribute to program success.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide mechanical engineering oversight on designs, collaborating with a dedicated CAD designer to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support updates and creation of detailed drawings for rack-mount components and assemblies, including isometric views and RF tray layouts.
  • Lead or contribute to documentation and configuration updates including:
    • Visio rack drawings
    • Excel wire lists
    • PDM bill of materials (BOM) and drawing trees
    • New part requests and component SCDs
    • Cable trades, patch panel layouts, and connectivity estimates
    • Cable VIDs (Visual Identification Drawings), both new and updated
    • PDM change requests (CRs) and change notices (CNs)
  • Work closely with manufacturing to:
    • Provide redlines, design clarifications, and engineering support during builds
    • Update drawings and documentation to reflect As-Built conditions
  • Produce and maintain:
    • Transit case assembly drawings (rack elevation, BOM, interconnects, wire lists) for 5 units in current production
    • Rack assembly packages for 4 lab racks and ~40 site racks-emphasizing design reuse, consistency, and manufacturability
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Advanced proficiency with CAD tools for mechanical modeling and drawing generation
  • Strong experience with Visio, Excel, and Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods
  • Familiarity with technical, military, and industry standards
  • Understanding of cable design, selection, and integration
  • Ability to support multiple concurrent tasks, from design oversight to documentation and production support

Work Environment:
This is a 100% on-site position located in Scottsdale, AZ. You will work closely with designers, engineers, and manufacturing teams in a highly technical and fast-paced environment focused on delivering rugged, deployable systems for mission-critical applications.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Advanced proficiency with modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods and technical, government, and industry standards.
  • Collaborative, creative thinker with experience leading complex projects with successful outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience writing technical papers and proposals.
  • Visio Rack drawing updates.
  • Excel wire list updates.
  • PDM BOM updates.
  • Drawing tree update.
  • New PDM part requests as needed.
  • CAD work (minimal) - Note, we have a designer supporting the program already, so that the ME support will be overseen.
    1. We have one program-level drawing that details rack mount component ISO views, which will need updates for new components.
    2. RF Tray custom assembly drawings.
    3. Patch panel drawings.
  • Cable trades/selection
  • Cable estimates - connectivity between racks
  • Cable VIDs - new/updates
  • Component SCDs
  • PDM CRs/CNs.
