Job Description

Vitro Architectural Glass, North America's largest manufacturer of architectural and automotive glass is currently hiring for a General Maintenance Mechanic at its Wichita Falls, Texas location. The Wichita Falls facility produces flat glass utilizing the float process for application in the automotive, trade, and mirror markets.

A General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing plant maintenance in a safe and orderly manner to maintain a high level of production in the plant. The incumbent observes all Vitro environmental policies in the performance of his/her duties to minimize any potential impact on the environment. They observe all safety rules and procedures, performs work in a safe and orderly manner, maintains good housekeeping in specific work areas and assists in this endeavor throughout the plant. The incumbent must have the ability to troubleshoot and effect necessary repair, adjustment or construction of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment throughout the plant as relates to the following areas of qualification: welding, millwrighting, pipefitting and electrical work. The position is part of a continuous operation (24 hours, 7 days/week), and has a rotating schedule.

Skills and Requirements



  • Use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of bearings, gears, couplings, etc.
  • Knowledge of cylinders, valves and solenoids
  • Experience with preventative maintenance in an industrial setting
  • Basic Welding/Fabrication
  • Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic 3-phase electrical experience
  • Basic Control Systems troubleshooting
  • Ability to understand electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Advanced fabrication ability is a plus
  • Basic machining skill with mills and lathes is a plus
  • PLC and advanced motor control experience is a major plus
