Nursing Assistant II - Patient Transporter | Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center
Pay: $17.75 hourly and $4.93 hourly Health and Welfare Benefit!

Job Summary

Patient Transporters provide quality patient care through the safe, timely transport of patients and items to designated locations on the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center campus.

This is a contract positionand is subject to renewal.

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Assist both inpatients and outpatients with safe and efficient transportation throughout the medical center using wheelchairs, gurneys, inpatient beds, and other conveyances.
  • Escort patients to and from hospital entrances and parking structures as needed.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with Dispatch to receive and relay transport instructions and relevant information.
  • Provide basic assistance to patients entering or exiting transport devices, and promptly notify clinical staff when additional support is required.
  • Collect biological specimens from various hospital units and deliver them securely to the laboratory.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous and accurate information to patients, visitors, and hospital guests, ensuring a positive customer service experience.
  • Support departmental operations by assisting with tasks such as tracking, retrieving, and sanitizing transport equipment, as well as contributing to data collection and reporting efforts.
  • Operate a multi-line phone system and serve as a backup Dispatcher, delivering prompt and professional communication.
  • Consistently perform duties in a safe, respectful, confidential, and professional manner in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in English (as a first or second language) is preferred.
  • Must successfully pass an FBI Department of Homeland Security clearance upon hire.
  • Required to obtain Heartsaver/CPR certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.
  • Availability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, when needed, based on operational needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Highly dependable and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to respond promptly and effectively to dynamic or unexpected situations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with solid literacy abilities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse personalities and navigate interpersonal challenges.
  • Capable of solving practical problems and handling a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Preferred ability to interpret and follow instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand and walk, sometimes over five (5) miles per shift. The employee is required to lift, place, or move supplies, up to 50 pounds while bending, stooping, and walking. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
