What you'll be doing...

This position is ideal for a newer attorney looking to develop in-house legal experience. The candidate should have experience or an interest in gaining experience in support of network deployment, real estate or regulatory.

The successful candidate will support Verizon's South East Market, Verizon's central regulatory team and central right of way team. In this role, you will partner with network clients to provide legal support, including strategic planning, negotiation, implementation and management of Verizon's network infrastructure agreements, other strategic initiatives, and work to ensure Verizon's continued compliance with federal radiofrequency exposure and spectrum regulations, and to address FAA concerns.

The position requires a business partner ready to collaborate with and support this dynamic team from brainstorming ideas, helping to guide execution and providing ongoing support to ensure the success of these critical matters. The ideal candidate will be a team player with significant legal experience in or knowledge of (1) reviewing and negotiating complex contracts, (2) providing sound and concise legal advice to internal client groups, (3) collaborating with other internal business partners supporting clients to prioritize and complete high-level urgent matters efficiently and decisively, (4) regulatory issues relating to RF spectrum rules, (5) supervising outside counsel as needed.

The Network Counsel will handle substantial responsibilities under the supervision of the Managing Associate General Counsel, including the following responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate network infrastructure agreements, including for new construction of towers and small cells and other wireless facilities, right of way access and related agreements

  • Develop expertise and deep understanding of the network infrastructure deployed by the Network client group in order to provide day to day guidance and support related to network infrastructure and related agreements, including contract interpretation and drafting and review, risk assessment, dispute resolution, implementation guidance and operational support

  • Create and provide periodic legal training to internal and external stakeholders, including submarket field teams and outside counsel, as necessary to successfully implement and support such agreements and initiatives

  • Develop expertise and deep understanding of the FCC's regulations for issues related to radiofrequency exposure and spectrum compliance.

  • Advise on strategies to lower network real estate costs

  • Supervise outside counsel's work in support of the clients (including transactional, litigation, zoning matters, and compliance issues)

  • Counsel internal clients on a range of legal issues relating to real estate and regulatory compliance matters impacting Verizon's network deployment and operation

  • Support strategic projects and other tasks or responsibilities assigned by Managing Associate General Counsel

What we're looking for... You'll need to have:
  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience

  • Bar membership and required license

  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Experience as a practicing transactional attorney at a law firm or in-house legal department

  • Knowledge and prior experience with the telecommunications industry

  • Knowledge and prior experience with FCC regulations, particularly related to radiofrequency exposure, FAA concerns and spectrum compliance

  • Knowledge and substantive experience handling complex contract negotiations

  • Knowledge and prior experience with real estate transactions

  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record of managing complex projects from inception to completion and team management skills

  • Ability to think creatively to find new solutions

  • Highly developed analytical reasoning skills, report analysis and keen attention to detail and processes

  • Sound judgment, with the ability to appropriately balance legal and business risks

  • Strong business knowledge and confident decision-making skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, motivational and leadership skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage and appropriately prioritize multiple projects and tasks
