Sr. Land Restoration Project Manager

Purpose
Oversee and provide technical support in the implementation of multiple external and internal land restoration projects, including permitting, planning, procurement, budgeting, implementation, research, and monitoring. Manages projects of various sizes and locations, setting timelines and expectations for project teams, maintaining quality of project deliverables, maintaining positive client relationships, assisting with business development and supporting preparation of scope/cost proposals for new projects. Evaluates complex habitat mitigation projects throughout northern California. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, manage staff, work efficiently and provide a consistent level of high-quality work in a high-pressure environment. Individual must have the ability to communicate effectively with client teams and coworkers.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  1. Embrace a culture where safety is expressed as a core value through support of safety programs. Prepare project specific training materials and participate and regular tailgate meetings with staff.
  2. Actively supports the achievement of project and service goals, including quality project execution, employee productivity, and developing business opportunities and client relationships.
  3. Provide leadership in project planning and implementation, developing and motivating employees, and recognizing and evaluating staff in the execution of projects.
  4. Identify complex land restoration problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  5. Applies scientific methods and rules to solve problems and logic/reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  6. Serves as a technical expert in applicable wetlands, permitting, mitigation and regulations as well as CEQA/NEPA screening tools.
  7. Prepares and reviews permit applications and conducting consultation with agency staff as required under Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act, Sections 7 and 10 of the Endangered Species Act, reviewing wetland delineations and biological inventories.
  8. Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  9. Oversees the need and use of consultants/contractors. Develops and reviews scope of work and cost estimates, budgets, and invoices.
  10. Develop and define criteria for projects' key deliverables and continually monitor critical milestones.
  11. Estimate labor and equipment costs needed in the implementation and management of restoration projects, including short- and long-term goals, budgets, and work schedules. Evaluates staffing and resource needs to accomplish tasks.
  12. Establish and develop strategic long-term relationships with current clients, new clients and prospective teaming partners.
  13. Prepares proposals, cost estimates, and staffing plans for land restoration projects.
  14. Interpret and communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance issues, and coordinate key initiatives with colleagues and other stakeholders.
  15. Develop and implement training and educational tools to support construction and operations teams in meeting regulatory obligations and permit requirements.
  16. Plan, coordinate, communicate and facilitate activities of multiple disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion.
  17. Coordinates timelines and critical path management of projects. Develop project schedules.
  18. Manage internal resources in their day-to-day work of data collection, design, and technical report writing.
  19. Attend meetings and site inspections with construction teams, consultants, and project owners.
  20. Inspects work in progress and upon completion for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  21. Reviews service request and resolves client complaints, concerns and technical problems in a timely manner.
  22. Develop collaborative strategies for implementing alternative restoration techniques to improve success and/or efficiencies.

Relationships, Qualifications and Requirements, & Competencies

Reports to:
  • Habitat Resource Manager.
Internal Clients:
  • Project Managers, Plant Managers, and Contractors.

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Experience & Industry Expertise:
  • Minimum 6-8 years' experience in in the environmental field managing projects and associated staff, consultants, and contractors.
Specific Job Requirements:
  • Ability to manage all aspects of small-, medium-, and large-sized restoration projects throughout Northern California.
  • General knowledge of local flora and fauna. Experience working with highly confidential information.
  • Experience working effectively in teams, to establish and maintain cross-functional and positive working relationships.
  • Experience effectively managing multiple projects and coordinating with internal staff, external consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work on diverse projects.
  • Possess a high level of self-motivation.
  • Demonstrated business development success required.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and GIS.

Equipment Used:
  • Laptop computer, automobile (truck), and GPS technology.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Job sites include uneven ground, steep slopes, exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Frequently travels and works alone in remote areas. Performs occasional manual labor including shoveling, lifting, and herbicide spraying. Works occasionally on projects requiring long hours. Responds to emergency requests (e.g., safety, project deadlines) as needed.

BASE SALARY RANGE:
$102,500.00 - $143,500.00
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
