The Conflict of Commitment and Interest Specialist will be responsible for the coordination, management, and support activities associated with the Conflict of Commitment and Interest (COCI) programs. This includes providing guidance to UIC faculty, staff, and students on COCI policies, procedures, and federal regulations; preparing materials for the Conflict Review Committee (CRC) meetings; coordinating educational workshops; and reviewing current policies and procedures to propose modifications.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manages disclosure and pre-approval request review in the disclosure system.
  • Manages the subcontractor process, including assisting investigators in obtaining a netID and disclosing it in the COCI system.
  • Completes Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) IRB- and grants-related intake, tracking and updating FCOI management systems and initial reviews.
  • Provides guidance and advice to UIC faculty, staff, and students regarding the University Policy of Conflict of Commitment and Interest and COCI disclosure and management procedures.
  • Assists the COCI Director with developing and presenting COCI workshops by updating materials and presentations, coordinating room reservations, creating workshop announcements, and leading the workshops as needed.
  • Provides comprehensive reports and detailed analyses for administrative use.
  • Maintains record-keeping and updates databases.
  • Provides administrative support to the COCI Director, including answering phone inquiries, updating website content, and drafting correspondence.
  • Advises UIC faculty, staff and students in preparing conflict management plans. Pre-review the plans to ensure they comply with federal regulations and guidelines, state laws, and University policies and procedures.
  • Assists with coordination of the CRC meetings, including preparing agenda, disseminating meeting materials, attending meetings, and composing meeting minutes.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect leadership in the absence of the Director.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
  2. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.
  3. Demonstrated experience working or supporting a Conflict of Commitment and Interest program (COCI).


(NOTE: A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic information systems (Word, Excel, Adobe, and other database applications).
  • Knowledge of conflict of commitment and interest policies, including University policies, state law and federal regulations with experience within a University setting managing conflicts of interest.
