AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The Construction Crew Leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

• Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
• Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
• Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
• Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
• Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Washington County offers dozens of parks/hiking trails with beautiful views. Wine aficionados will be delighted with dozens of wineries to visit. Historic Hillsboro adds a touch of charm to its shops and cultural events. In Multnomah County the breathtaking Multnomah Falls stands as a natural marvel and boasts an extensive network of hiking trails. Sports fans can catch the excitement of a Blazer game, see the Portland Timbers & Thorns in action, and check out the AZ Diamondback farm team, the Hillsboro Hops. Both counties boast a vibrant food scene from diverse food cart pods to craft breweries (in 2023 we won more James Beard awards than any other city!). Let's ski Mt. Hood in the AM and swim into the sunset in the Pacific Ocean the same day. Whatever your passion, AmeriCorps members will find a surplus of options for personal and professional growth.
• Unique projects: Construction Crew Leads will be trained in Green Building and energy-savings techniques which are now used in all our developments where we achieve Earth Advantage Platinum ratings. We are working closely with Energy Trust of Oregon on a pilot project to build a solar development and are working with local utilities to install vehicle charging stations for private/public use. We were recently awarded the Earth Advantage Green Builder of the Year award in the low-income housing category.

When will you serve?

Start dates are flexible and based on this location's availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer and no earlier than August 2025.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
