DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Your role as an Adult Basic Education Teacher for adult offenders is critical to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. You will be responsible for creating a safe and conducive learning environment, developing lesson plans that meet the specific needs of your students, and assessing their progress and understanding through various techniques. Additionally, you will play a key role in helping inmates develop essential life skills through your lessons in math, reading, English, and social studies. Your dedication and hard work will have a positive impact on the lives of your students and their future prospects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum; or
  • Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is assigned to an institution that houses state mandated school-age students and requires a valid and active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by then Pennsylvania Department of Education. When no candidates possess the named certifications, the selected candidate must be eligible for an Emergency Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that is appropriate to the position.
  • Employees assigned to an institution that houses state mandated school-age students, and who were hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit, must obtain a valid and active Instructional Level 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
