The High School Conference Commissioner serves as the chief administrator and liaison for the member schools within the conference. This position ensures the smooth coordination of athletic programs, upholds conference policies and regulations, manages officials and tournaments, and supports the mission of interscholastic athletics by fostering fair play, equity, and student-athlete development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Communication
Serve as the primary contact for all conference-related matters.
Communicate regularly with athletic directors, principals, and officials.
Maintain accurate and timely correspondence with all member schools.
2. Financial Oversight
Prepare and submit the annual conference budget to the Executive Committee (due in April).
Manage all conference financial operations including billing, payment of expenses, and tax documentation (e.g., IRS forms).
Maintain accurate records of income, expenses, and disbursements.
3. Meeting Administration
Develop and distribute agendas for Executive Committee and Athletic Director meetings.
Record and distribute meeting minutes.
Coordinate and attend all seasonal coaches' and athletic directors' meetings.
4. Scheduling
Create and distribute athletic schedules (Varsity, JV, JV2) for all sports.
Submit tentative schedules at least one month before final approval to allow coach feedback.
Oversee and approve schedule changes due to exams, facilities, or emergencies.

Coordinate and manage conference tournaments/meets including:
Volleyball, Tennis, Wrestling, Cross Country, Swimming (incl. Relays), Indoor/Outdoor Track.
Secure officials and ensure logistics, awards, and results are appropriately managed.
7. Record Keeping & Awards
Maintain up-to-date standings for all conference sports.
Coordinate and distribute individual and team awards.
Ensure transparency and fairness in rankings and recognitions.
8. Technology & Communication Management
Maintain and update the conference website.
Distribute memos, announcements, and other documentation as needed.
Qualifications
Prior experience in athletic administration, coaching, or officiating preferred.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
Familiarity with scheduling software and digital communication tools.
Commitment to equity, sportsmanship, and educational athletics.
Recommended Certifications:
Business or Financial Certifications - (MBA, CPA, SHRM, CBAP, COO, CMA, CFA)
Registered or Certified Athletic Administrator (RAA or CAA) - National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA)
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification - Red Cross or equivalent
NFHS Learn Certifications - Such as:
"Implicit Bias"
"Name Image Likeness"
"Sportsmanship"
State Athletic Association Certifications - As applicable in our region or state (WIAA - commissioner mentorship & trainings)
