The Sign Technician ensures the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic by installing and maintaining traffic control signs and recording the required documentation for those devices.

We Require

  • One (1) year of experience in striping, sign installation, road marking, or other related experience in traffic signals and traffic control; OR
  • Two (2) years of experience in roadway construction
  • High school diploma or GED

Other Requirements

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire an American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagging certification

For traffic control assignments, we highly value previous experience as a Traffic Control Technician and/or experience as a Traffic Control Supervisor.

Job Contributions

  • Install and maintain traffic control signage consistent with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards
  • Input all work in real-time using an electronic asset management program

  • You will be assigned a one-ton truck and will be responsible for following all maintenance/ service requirements

  • Operate and maintain various hand tools and power equipment

  • Participate in On-Call/Standby with a required 24-hour response when requested, assisting with flooded roadway response, special signing projects, dedications, emergencies, Palo Verde drills, and other exercises

  • Participate in two-way radio communication with dispatch and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

  • Assess and report roadway and traffic control conditions, damage, and flooding.

Working Conditions

This position requires the employee to exert up to 50-100 pounds occasionally, up to 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10-20 pounds constantly. Work may occur outdoors and/or from inside a vehicle. This work may require exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, noises and vibrations. You may also be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and travel.

Tools and Equipment

This work involves the use of hand tools, landscape tools, post-hole diggers, augers, jackhammers, wheelbarrows, and cement. It requires the operation of a one-ton sign truck and electronic asset management software. Safety boots, a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and a Type II Safety Vest must be worn.
