Summary:

The Pediatric Hospital Medicine Lead Advanced Practice Provider is accountable for facilitating quality outcomes and patient experience within a cost-effective time frame. The Lead Nurse Practitioner will be under the general supervision of the Division Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine or his/her designee and serve as a lead resource to Advanced Practice Providers within the Division. In collaboration with physicians is responsible for overseeing the progress of a caseload of patients across the care continuum in the inpatient setting. Acts as an educator consultant and liaison to members of the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within pediatric hospital medicine.

Manages a caseload of hospitalized patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health outcomes.

Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.

Performs lumbar punctures arterial blood draws and other advanced practice skills under physician supervision.

Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.

Annually completes mandatory safety infection control BLS and PALS.

Prescriptive privileges per licensure.

Administrative Responsibilities

Participates in the development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies and procedures to support the patient care delivery model.

Provides new employee onboarding and training and performs Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) in conjunction with the supervising physician.

Provides administrative functions within the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine including scheduling for Advanced Practice Providers leading monthly Meetings etc.

Collaborates with subspecialty divisions residency programs and other members of the multidisciplinary team to promote quality patient care.

Participates in the education and mentorship of healthcare trainees.

Functions as the lead resource to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants within the Division of Hospital Medicine.

Participates in new applicant interview and selection process.

Evaluates Advanced Practice Provider performance in conjunction with the supervising physician and recommends corrective action as appropriate.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Masters of Science Degree Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Demonstrates outstanding communication skills clinical care competency and ability to work well in teams.

Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.

EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years related experience in clinical setting preferably in pediatric hospital medicine including demonstrated leadership abilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None; provides functional guidance to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants assigned to area.
