Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Biomedical Technician I.

Under close supervision, installs, inspects, calibrates, and performs preventive maintenance on General Biomedical -electrical, electronic and pneumatic patient care, diagnostic, monitoring and therapeutic instrumentation throughout the Medical Center. Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of instruments such as: Infusion, Syringe, Enteral, PCA Pumps, SCDs, Pacemakers, Telemetry, Multi-parameter patient Monitors, Central Station Monitoring, Hypothermia Units, Lab equipment etc. General Care Areas include but is not limited to Central Services, Labs, Physical/Occupational Therapy, and Dialysis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Carries out minor repairs of patient medical equipment, accessories and cables in the Medical Center in an efficient manner. Troubleshoots minor problems in medical equipment and renders equipment functional fixing or replacing appropriate component or circuit board based on the problem; may be required to provide service at the point of use. Services and repairs cables, transducers and accessories. Verifies proper operation of all device functions, prior to returning the device to service. If the service was rendered at point of use, has user department staff verify current operation. Records all work done on appropriate forms. Informs and consults with the Director on unusual problems or specific hazards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attends all required work-related training.
  • Installs medical equipment in coordination with the user department and Facilities Management Department. Assists other CE technicians in the installation of new patient systems. Assist in the reinstallation of equipment in other areas or carts as determined by the user department's needs. Performs incoming inspection on general patient care equipment with (at minimum) electrical safety check, and/or a full acceptance and performance check. Performs electrical and functional safety checks on all incoming patient care equipment before it is used. Performs functional tests, checks the calibrations on new patient monitors, SCDs, infusion devices, feeding pumps, suction regulators, etc., on a regular basis. Re-inspects equipment for electrical safety checks at intervals prescribed by departmental policy following repairs. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of medical instrumentation, and is aware of clinical applications of equipment and how it is used on patients. Attends all required work-related training.
  • Determines whether equipment is covered by warranty or service contract when repairs are needed. Notifies the Operations Manager of equipment under warranty or contract by providing the manufacturer, model, serial number, and the description of the problem with the equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance (PM) and calibration on above mentioned equipment at intervals prescribed by manufacturers' and departmental policies. Locates equipment that is due for PM, performs functional testing, and calibration: works on fixed equipment such as patient monitors in the room where it is installed. Brings mobile equipment back to the shop for inspection. Affixes appropriate tags, labels and/or stickers to new equipment ensuring equipment are also appropriately tagged.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have an Associate's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering/Technology with a minimum of one-year medical equipment repair experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering/Technology
CBET certification by the International Certification Commission

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $76,105.55 - $77,145.55 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
