The Director, Facilities and Construction is responsible for overseeing and managing the national facilities portfolio and construction projects within the assigned division. This leadership role ensures that all facilities are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and functionality, while strategically guiding construction and renovation projects from inception through completion. The Director partners with cross-functional teams, external vendors, and institutional leadership to ensure the alignment of physical spaces with organizational goals and operational needs. Responsibilities
Strategic Facilities & Asset Management
Develop and implement a facilities management strategy that maintains high standards and optimizes spend
Integrate newly acquired facilities into a unified strategy Partner with campus facilities leaders to align campus needs with best practices Leverage vendor relationships to maximize product and service value Support space optimization through a deep understanding of operational needs Assist in evaluating and implementing new facilities programs and services Ensure regulatory compliance at federal, state, and local levels
Capital Projects & Construction Leadership
Lead all construction projects: new campuses, expansions, remodels, and capital initiatives Solicit and negotiate construction bids and contracts Facilitate entitlement processes and permitting for development Establish communication systems to keep stakeholders informed Oversee project accounting and vendor coordination Implement project management systems in collaboration with IT Track and manage capital project budgets in partnership with Finance
Team Leadership & Organizational Partnership
Build and lead a high-performance team with clear goals, training, and career development Recognize and reward employee achievements Partner with Finance and campus stakeholders on budget planning and project funding Support campus safety and security initiatives Develop success metrics and report progress to senior leadership Secure and manage additional resources to meet project demands
Qualifications
Education / Experience
- High School diploma or GED (required) and a minimum of 12 years experience in commercial facilities management (required);
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, business administration, or other relevant field and a minimum of eight (8) years experience in commercial facilities management (preferred)
- Minimum of three (3) years of capital project management experience (required)
- Experience working in an educational or multi-location corporate environment (preferred)
Technical Expertise & Project Execution
Deep knowledge of large-scale construction, capital projects, and infrastructure systems Skilled in sustainability practices and regulatory compliance Proficient in project and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, Smartsheet, Procore, SharePoint) Consistently deliver projects on time and within budget in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning
