Primary Purpose of the Position: |
The Residence Hall Property Security unit operates within the Fayetteville State University Department of Police and Public Safety. This unit is led by a Police Lieutenant and is responsible for providing security services to the residential facilities on campus. This position will report to a Property Security Sergeant.
This position is primarily night shift; however, it may require some rotating shifts. This position requires weekend, holiday, and/or overtime work. This is an essential / mandatory position that requires the employee to report to work during inclement weather, natural disasters, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Employees in this position perform security enforcement duties in support of residence life and campus operations. Work involves securing, guarding, and protecting property and grounds from a fixed position or by patrolling the interior and exterior of all residential facilities via foot, vehicle, or other assigned method. Work involves securing the residential facilities and guarding property against entry by unauthorized persons, fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitoring assigned areas for possible violations of laws, policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognizing and reporting violations of laws, policies, and regulations, and unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations; providing information and assistance to students, staff, and the public; operating and maintaining security related equipment; documenting and maintaining security related records and reports. Residence Hall Security Officers are required to remain alert, attentive, and free of distractions throughout their shift. Provide access control by checking and verifying the identification of persons entering residential facilities, denying access to unauthorized persons, and assisting with the identification and removal of unauthorized persons from residential facilities. During residential facility security checks, officers should be alert for, report, and document all security issues, such as unlocked doors, unusual activities, unauthorized persons or non-students near residential facilities, quiet hour violations, emergency or unsafe conditions, security issues in parking areas, damage to university property, visitation violations, disturbances, alcohol violations, drug violations, and all other violations of law or University or residential policies, or violations of the student handbook. Immediately reports security and safety related violations or issues to the police dispatcher by way of radio. Completes nightly shift log and documents pertinent information on the log. Participates in nightly shift briefings with security and/or police personnel. Makes contact with on-duty Residence Life facility staff at beginning of shift to determine any pertinent matters occurring within the facility prior to the officer's shift. Assists responding emergency personnel, as needed. Provides CPR and first aid to the level trained and equipped. Attends Residence Life meetings, as required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: |
High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require valid N.C. driver's license. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
At least one year of prior security or security-related experience preferred. Security or security-related experience in a higher education setting preferred. |
