Video Producer
Salary range: $85,000 - $90,000 Work environment: Flexible-hybrid
Overview The Video Producer is a part of the University Marketing Communications department, and is an important member of the Creative Services team. The University Marketing Communications department is responsible for raising the profile of the University of Minnesota and promoting University initiatives, education, research and community engagement. The Creative Services team provides a full range of creative services including design, writing, and multimedia creative and production, and serves as the main storytelling service for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities through its web and social media channels.
The Video Producer plays an essential role in supporting and advancing the reputation of the University of Minnesota, by producing video and other multimedia storytelling formats to highlight the University's education, research, and community engagement initiatives. The Videographer will join a team of visual storytellers to bring to life engaging and inspiring stories that further the University's strategic priorities.

Specifically, the Video Producer will have responsibility for the following: Multimedia, Video Development and Execution
- Works with the project team to conceptualize, plan, coordinate, and complete video and multimedia projects that tell the stories of the University for use on websites, in presentations, and for special projects.
- Develops and builds multimedia productions ranging from editorial video productions, mixed media productions, and motion graphic animations.
- Interacts directly with partners, team members, project managers, and Creative Services Director to plan and schedule video shoots.
- Explores creative and technical options as it relates to the multimedia project, schedules production activity, coordinates lighting and audio, and provides technical direction on video shoots.
- Plans and performs video post-production tasks which includes reviewing footage, making and collaborating on editorial decisions, producing rough cuts, audio adjustment, color correction, and final editing using Adobe software.
- Applies computer graphics and special effects for video post-production in accordance with the overall production concepts.
- Consults with graphic and multimedia designers to make video products available in a variety of formats, and coordinates internal and external duplication services as the need arises.
- Works with sophisticated video equipment and software programs.
- Coordinates with the Account Services team to ensure transcribing and captioning meet standards for accessible transcribing and captioning.
Project Management
- Follows established University Relations and Creative Services processes.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Works with production companies if a project requires outside vendor assistance.
- Stay current on project management and video trends.
Multimedia and Video Asset Management
- Handles b-roll requests and regularly updates the University's photo and video library.
- Develops University-wide branded assets for other video producers (UR communication resources).
Equipment Management
- Maintains, repairs and troubleshoots equipment.
- Archives video footage in an accessible/organized format.
- Inventories and orders supplies to ensure an adequate quantity are on hand when needed.
- Schedules shoots; sets up and operates cameras, lighting equipment, teleprompter, wireless microphones, and other audio equipment; films segment; and monitors and adjusts equipment during recording/taping sessions.
- Collaborates with the video project team on set.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in communications, journalism, marketing, art or related field.
- At least four years of video and audio production or broadcasting experience.
- Experience with video production software such as Adobe Premiere.
- Ability to travel to on-site video shoots, both within the Twin Cities metro and across the state of Minnesota.
- Ability to attend key meetings or events on the Twin Cities campus as necessary.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with editorial, marketing and other impacted teams to deliver outcomes, capture ideas and understand needs.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, technology and standards of video production and shot composition.
- Skilled at creative storytelling and use of innovative techniques.
- Proficient in planning, researching, scripting, blocking, organizing, storyboarding, editing, lighting, and staging video productions.
- Skilled in crafting digital video effects.
- Ability to stay current on new technologies.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to meet deadlines and provide outstanding customer service.
- Ability to be flexible and able to work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of video and audio production or broadcasting experience.
- Experience with animation software such as Adobe After Effects.
- Experience with and an interest in use of AI tools in video production.
- Knowledge of animation principles and visual design.
- Experience with professionally managing talent and leadership in video production situations, including coaching of line delivery.
- Experience ensuring that video productions meet the highest accessibility standards.
- Exceptional project management skills.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Familiarity with a higher education setting.
Pay and Benefits
