About the Department
The mission of the Department of Population Health and Pathobiology is to recruit, train, inspire and graduate Doctors of Veterinary Medicine of exemplary knowledge, skill, and character. To maintain the intellectual and professional climate necessary to accomplish this mission, the department's faculty will advance veterinary medical through inspired teaching and mentoring of students (undergraduate, professional, residents, and graduate), excellence in clinical and diagnostic services, innovative basic and applied research, and innovative extension and engagement activities.
North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM) is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing veterinarians and veterinarian scientists while advancing animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.
With the graduation of its first class in 1985, the CVM remains one of the younger veterinary programs in the country. Despite its relative youth, the College has gained international recognition on the strength of its teaching, research, engagement, and patient care efforts and is ranked among the top 5 of the nation's 33 colleges of veterinary medicine in the yearly U.S. News & World Report survey.
Located on 180 acres near downtown Raleigh, the College encompasses 20 buildings on the main Centennial Biomedical Campus. Instruction is in three departments-Clinical Sciences, Molecular Biomedical Sciences, and Population Health and Pathobiology. In addition to the four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, there are programs leading to master and doctoral degrees in several areas with numerous opportunities for specialization.

Essential Job Duties
Will teach courses related to veterinary pathology, swine production animal diagnostics and medicine, and infectious diseases including VMP 934 - Problem Solving of Cases in Infectious Diseases and Immunity II; VMP 941 - Veterinary Pathology II; VMP 971 - Production Animal Diagnostics; VMP 977 - Autopsy/Clinical Pharmacology; VMP 984 - Swine Health Management I; VMP 991 - Swine Selective; and VMP 904 - Swine Elective. Will research infectious diseases and diagnostics in production animals. Will serve as the Necropsy Liaison for the hospital and provides biopsy and Necropsy services. Will mentor students.

Minimum Education and Experience
Must have a PhD in Veterinary Pathology or Infectious Diseases. Must be certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists ( ACVP) or equivalent. Must have completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology. Must have demonstrated experience with: research and diagnostic laboratory standards and requirements including standards for handling and conducting animal research with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC) training, biosafety laboratory level-3 ( BSL-3) training, and American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians ( AAVLD) accreditation; conducting postmortem examinations in anatomic veterinary pathology in various animal species, evaluating microscopic changes, writing pathology reports, and communicating with clinical veterinarians; production animal medicine and diagnostics including postmortem examination, development of diagnostic tests, utilization and interpretation of ancillary diagnostic tests; conducting research in pathobiology and infectious diseases including large animal models for human respiratory diseases, swine emerging infectious diseases, metabolic bone diseases in production animals, and infective endocarditis; and teaching experience in production animal diagnostics and anatomic veterinary pathology of the respiratory system.
