Engineering Intern - Construction

Salary: 25.00 - 26.00 an hour

SUMMARY
Manson is currently hiring for full-time summer interns for Seattle-area field, marine equipment yard operations, and office estimating / engineering assignments. Interns will have the opportunity to rotate between the engineering and estimating positions, working in the field and in the main office to provide well-rounded knowledge vital to marine and heavy civil construction, and dredging.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following; additional duties may be assigned.

Field Engineer for Construction Assignments

• Reporting of daily activities of a construction or yard operations crew
• Cost and implementation comparison of as-built construction activities to the as-bid estimates
• Quantity tracking
• Formwork and falsework details
• Coordinate with project foremen and superintendents to write work procedures for activities
• Development of project work element plans and hazard analysis
• Computer Aided Drafting for analysis of equipment capabilities, depiction of work methods, access, and sequencing

Estimating Assignments

• Quantity takeoffs
• Reading job specific specifications and standard specifications
• Subcontractor and supplier coordination and quote comparisons
• Estimate cost analysis and detail entry
• Project scheduling
• Form and falsework detailing
• Equipment analysis
• Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
• Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Currently pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Mangement, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from a four-year nationally accredited college or university.
• Must have a valid Driver's License, and acceptable driving record
• Experience with AutoCAD is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, for field assignments the employee is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
