Overview
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is seeking a highly motivated Construction Manager II to support the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects across our cutting-edge life sciences research facilities. This role is ideal for candidates with a solid foundation in construction management who are eager to grow within a complex, fast-paced, and mission-driven life sciences research environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Project Execution & Oversight:
      • Manage day-to-day activities across multiple construction projects, from scope development through closeout.
      • Ensure progress aligns with schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
      • Maintain up-to-date project documentation including RFIs, submittals, drawings, and closeout materials.
  • Site Management:
      • Provide regular on-site presence to monitor construction activity, ensuring compliance with design documents, safety protocols, quality standards, and institutional requirements.
  • Stakeholder Coordination:
      • Act as a key liaison between internal stakeholders, scientific users, design consultants, and contractors.
      • Facilitate communication to ensure alignment, manage expectations, and minimize disruption to ongoing operations.
  • Financial Management:
      • Manage project budgeting and financial tracking.
      • Review contractor proposals, assist with procurement, process change orders, and monitor costs to ensure adherence to approved budgets
  • Design & Constructability:
      • Coordinate design reviews, assist in identifying constructability challenges, and ensure alignment across trades to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Issue Resolution:
      • Proactively identify and resolve field issues to maintain project momentum and avoid delays.
  • Regulatory & Institutional Compliance:
      • Ensure construction activities meet applicable codes, Broad standards and EH&S protocols.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
      • Maintain thorough records of project activities including daily logs, meeting minutes, schedules, punch lists, and progress reports. Provide regular updates to internal leadership.
  • Commissioning & Turnover:
      • Oversees the commissioning and handover of critical systems. Ensure seamless project closeout and readiness for use.
      • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • 5-7 years of relevant construction/project management experience, preferably in lab, academic, or R&D environments
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and build trust across diverse teams including scientists, facilities staff, consultants, and contractors
  • Knowledge of lab construction principles, including MEP-intensive systems and technical infrastructure
  • Familiarity with vivarium design and animal research facility standards (e.g., AAALAC, NIH guidelines)
  • Understanding of Biosafety Level (BSL) space design considerations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate effectively in operational research environments
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing shifting priorities across concurrent initiatives
  • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, AutoCAD)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) for project documentation and collaboration
  • Working knowledge of EH&S and biosafety protocols; OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Proven problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to issue resolution
