Job Title: SharePoint Information Architect (3- Month Engagement)

Job Summary: The SharePoint Information Architect ( 3 - Month Engagement) will lead a complete redesign of the organization's SharePoint Online environment, addressing legacy data sprawl and inconsistent document practices. The Architect will assess, rearchitect, and implement a modern, scalable, and user-friendly information structure optimized for performance and tools like Microsoft Copilot. This role is responsible for developing governance protocols, SOPs, sensitivity labeling, and custom training to support sustainable adoption and ongoing use of the modernized platform.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Planning



  • Evaluate existing SharePoint usage across departments.
  • Conduct access reviews to identify sensitive documents with legacy permissions.
  • Report high-risk access scenarios and outdated structures.


Architecture and Implementation



  • Design a scalable, intuitive SharePoint information architecture.
  • Implement metadata frameworks, content organization, and navigation models.
  • Eliminate outdated content, broken links, and unstructured libraries.


Governance Development



  • Define governance models for metadata, document lifecycle, permissions, and escalation.
  • Develop and document SOPs for long-term SharePoint management and compliance.
  • Create a roadmap for ongoing governance and system maintenance.


Security and Compliance



  • Design and apply Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels ("Confidential", "Internal Use Only", etc.).
  • Create and test auto-labeling policies.
  • Implement access restrictions and validate label visibility in Copilot and Graph API.
  • Establish sensitivity label revalidation processes post-permission cleanup.


Training and Knowledge Transfer



  • Collaborate with Microsoft 365 training teams to develop custom training materials.
  • Deliver targeted user training sessions for site admins and end-users.
  • Train site admins on permission audits and labeling practices.
  • Lead knowledge transfer to the SharePoint Governance & IT Support Specialist.


CoPilot Integration



  • Ensure content is indexed appropriately for Microsoft Graph and Copilot responses.
  • Test contextual AI functionality across sites for alignment with new architecture.


Qualifications



  • 7+ years of experience in SharePoint Online architecture and governance.
  • Proven track record of leading full SharePoint re-architecture efforts.
  • Expertise in metadata frameworks, taxonomy design, and site administration.
  • Experience developing SOPs and user training materials in collaboration with M365 resources.
  • Ability to manage and deliver outcomes within a fixed 3-month timeline.
  • Deep knowledge of SharePoint Online structure, metadata, and governance best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Purview, Copilot, Graph API, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Ability to perform access audits and design secure permission strategies.
  • Strong documentation, project management, and communication skills.
  • Skilled in driving organizational change through structured training and guidance.
  • Familiarity with automating auditing and cleanup workflows.


Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $83.77/hr to $103.26/hr with a target rate of $93.45/hr benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
