Job Summary

Responsible for the day-to-day operations and provides leadership for Disability Resource Services. This position will oversee the Disability Resources office and carry overall accountability for providing leadership in the planning, program development, problem solving, staff development, and training. The Director responds to inquiries from students, College departments, the community, and/or external agencies and supervises administrative services professionals, paraprofessionals, and technical/support staff. The incumbent in this position will possess in-depth job knowledge which includes all compliance with Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and other federal, state and local laws, coupled with a strong focus around academic integrity, as well as assistive technology and resources available to students with disabilities.

Essential Functions

50% - Directs the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the DRS, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, and Alternative Format and related funding; responsible for the individual programs, services, materials, and technology for disabled students; evaluates assistive technology and other resources; maintains student confidentiality while coordinating the student's accommodations; hires, supervises, evaluates, and trains staff; Assists students with identifying and implementing individualized plan of study; implements reasonable and appropriate accommodations based on documentation of disability provided by qualified diagnosticians; evaluates medical and other documentation to determine qualifying status of students with disabilities requesting reasonable accommodations; provides accommodations, support services and auxiliary aids; works closely with faculty/staff, administration, Testing Services, other Maricopa Community Colleges, and in some cases parents to ensure administration of accommodations in a timely, appropriate and efficient manner; utilizes DRS Connect effectively to monitor student accommodations and communicate with students/ faculty. Provides annual reporting and goals and objectives to ensure continuous improvement.

20% - Utilizes data to understand, assess and advocate for student needs; plans and develops strategy, goals and objectives, oversees legally mandated academic accommodations and support services for students with disabilities in order to ensure equal access as per Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American with Disabilities Amendments Act.

20% - Plans and implements in-service training and provides counsel to faculty, staff, and administrators in order to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to ensuring equal access to all curricular and co-curricular offerings of the college for students with disabilities; responds to inquiries requiring a detailed knowledge of policies and procedures of assigned area; establishes liaison between the colleges and community agencies; serves on Disability Managers Council, Collaborates with District offices, colleges, divisions, and community organizations on student services programs and initiatives; serves on college and District committees; plans and implements information sessions and introduction orientations to disability services for new students and the greater campus community.

10% - Follows, understands and adheres to legal regulations/laws/policies (state, local, institutional) disability regulations such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act; may tracks and monitors federal grant ; prepares and monitors department budget and other related budgets; collects and compiles data for federal and state reports; responds to and resolves difficult or complex inquiries, requests and complaints; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration or related field and four years of related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Five (5) years or more of experience working in higher education.
B. Experience working with college students with disabilities (e.g., physical, social-emotional, learning, etc.)
C. Three (3) or more years of experience in the area of disability resources and services, specifically making decisions regarding reasonable accommodations in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
D. Experience collecting, compiling and reporting disability services data for federal and state agencies

Special Working Conditions
