SUMMARY

The Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator assists the Bryan Trauma Center in providing excellent trauma care by collaborating with the trauma team through clinical, research and performance improvement activities; conducts concurrent performance improvement appraisals, performs trauma data extracting, data entry, collection and data reporting. Assists the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director coordinate all aspects of the Trauma Service.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

* Coordinates and maintains the design and development of the performance improvement/quality improvement plan for the Trauma program from issue identification through loop closure/resolution.

* Conducts concurrent performance appraisals on all trauma patient records; provides follow-up and intervention on problems/issues identified during trauma audits to referral hospitals and EMS providers.

* Clinical data abstraction from the medical records of trauma patients for the purpose of data submission, injury research, epidemiology, quality improvement initiatives to improve trauma care.

* In conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager, evaluates the trauma care process for efficacy, quality, safety and effectiveness of standards and protocols.

*Collaborates with departmental personnel regarding data and coordinates information/creates reports specific to quality improvement.

*Serves as a consultant and liaison between Trauma services and clinical, ancillary and support services within Bryan Medical Center

*Facilitates collaborative and meaningful discussions with multiple providers and disciplines to improve care for the trauma patient

*Coordinates care with various disciplines and ensures that protocols, processes, and care are implemented for the trauma patient

*Collaborates with the Clinical Resource Nurses/Clinical Educators to provide ongoing access to coordinated high quality trauma education offerings to all team members of the trauma center

*Rounds and interacts with patients and families to facilitate communication with the Trauma Team on trauma care issues and discharge planning; serves as a patient advocate

*Monitors trauma care rendered to identify problems and trends in the trauma care and compliances with the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) and Performance Improvement Plan

*Participates in morning trauma rounds and multi-disciplinary rounds Monday-Friday to assess the needs, variances & complications of all trauma patients

*Provide regular reports to the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director with recommendations to address quality issues; utilizing evidence-based best practice, research etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing experience required. Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) Instructor and Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) Instructor within first year of employment required. Must successfully attend and complete the Trauma Outcomes and performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within one year of hire.
