GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Trauma Registrar is responsible for trauma data abstracting, data entry and collection, creating and generating reports and data summaries to meet regional, state and hospital requirements.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Supports and participates in the measurement of improvement activities by assisting in the development and collection of reliable and valid data, determining sampling and collection strategies, abstracting data from hospital databases/medical records, developing reliable and valid measures and assisting in the analysis of data.

*Collaborates with departmental personnel regarding data and coordinates information/creates reports specific to quality improvement.

*Performs data entry accurately and within the specified time period.

*Designs reports and graphs. Prepares and clearly articulates reports of quality improvement activities as assigned.

*Collects regional trauma data on a regular basis and sends information to the State Trauma Registry; maintains records as required by State Trauma Registry.

*Works with the Information Technology department to maintain the data collection system and implement upgrades; assists with regional trauma data collection, education and implementation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Minimum of associate degree in health related field preferred. Experience working in trauma preferred. Coding experience desirable. Two (2) years experience collecting, processing or maintaining data/information in a health-related field preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Completes American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) annual training Attends American Trauma Society Registry Course within first year of hire. Obtains Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) within first 2 years of employment and maintains certification. Attends Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS) course within 1 year of hire.
