The Engineering Lead is a vital member of the FHR Project Capability team, reporting directly to the Equipment Design Supervisor - Projects Capability. This key role involves managing the interface with Engineering Contractors during project phases, ensuring timely and high-quality engineering deliverables, and reinforcing FHR's safety culture. You will be instrumental in formulating engineering strategies, resolving project issues, and ensuring that engineering designs meet FHR's standards and business objectives.

The Flint Hills Resources Project Capability team is dedicated to advancing capital, turnaround, and expense projects at the Pine Bend and Corpus Christi refineries and Pipeline & Terminal assets. What You Will Do

As an Engineering Lead, your key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the Process Design team and Project Manager in Phase 1 to formulate a competitive engineering strategy for Phase 2.
  • Collaborate with Discipline Engineers to ensure deliverables for Phase 3 and Phase 4 are met with quality
  • Contribute to developing Engineering Request for Proposals and ensure deliverables meet corporate and plant engineering standards.
  • Serve as the primary interface with the Engineering Contractor during project Phases 2-4.
  • Ensure Engineering Contractor personnel are properly onboarded and have appropriate access to FHR IT systems.
  • Represent FHR engineering capability in routine Engineering Contractor report-out meetings.
  • Expedite timely responses to Engineering Contractor submittals and evaluate feedback on engineering design documentation.
  • Coordinate with the Construction Manager to resolve design conflicts.
  • Provide the transparency associated with engineered equipment risks from a schedule aspect
  • Maintain awareness of key project scope and execution changes.
  • Provide transparency in status of project engineering execution to key stakeholders
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews and address follow-up actions associated with engineering deliverables
  • Ensure the technical acceptance of engineered equipment bid packages and monitor key equipment deliveries.
  • Collaborate on the development of the cost estimate and project schedule.
  • Communicate KPIs with the Engineering Contractor and contribute to strategies ensuring project competitiveness.
  • Review Engineering Contractor's charges and billings for accuracy and consistency.
  • Capture engineering learnings and apply new knowledge to advance the capability to drive better project outcomes

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, etc.) or equivalent experience
  • Ten (10) years or more of experience as an Engineer in a process industry
  • Experience leading a team or project group with multiple stakeholders

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Previous experience as a technical discipline engineer (Maintenance, Reliability, Projects)
  • Experience with executing a Phased Project Process, methodologies, schedules, and deliverables (i.e., PMG)

For this role, we anticipate paying $135,000- $180,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
