We have a leadership opportunity available in Oakdale, MN. Leading a mechanical engineering group in the MEP space, this person will be responsible for developing and implementing the tactical and strategic plan to meet objectives and ensure long-term sustainability of the business unit (BU).

BU Management Responsibilities Oversee all operational aspects of the BU.



  • Develop annual strategic plans with 1-, 3-, and 5-year objectives and goals
  • Create and nurture the organizational culture that supports the BU strategy
  • Develop careers of all BU employee owners
  • Collaborate with other BU to support the growth of WM
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for each BU employee owner
  • Responsible for ensuring budgets, business, and strategic plans are met for the BU
  • Responsible for profits and losses of the BU
  • Responsible for all sales and business development of the BU
  • Responsible for all BU cost estimates and proposals
  • Assigns work and resources to meet overall project deadlines
  • Evaluates progress on projects, suggests changes, and approves proposals generated by others before they are delivered to clients
  • Interprets policies and procedures and ensures they are followed within the BU
  • Manage BU employee owners including project managers, schedulers, cost managers, engineers, technicians, sales reps., and administrative support
  • Knowledge and ability to hire/terminate/promote and make compensation decisions for BU employee owners
  • Responsible for project-related purchasing, project invoicing and accounts receivable tracking
  • Report BU financial status, backlog, opportunities and other key metrics to Regional Vice President
  • Responsible to act as a Principal Project Manager (see job description below) as required


Principal Project Manager Responsibilities



  • Leads and provides direction and guidance for small to large, high-complexity, multi-disciplinary projects, and programs
  • May be responsible for managing and directing multiple projects or programs at once
  • Manages and oversees the end-to-end project management lifecycle
  • Accountable for project and program success
  • Responsible for the development of project concepts and detailed execution plans
  • Guides the client in project decisions, ensuring the best solution for their business
  • Responsible for building and leading a high performing team to deliver on goals and objectives of the project or program
  • Manages vendor and client relations to ensure that service expectations are developed and met
  • Maintains regular contact with clients and reports on project progress and accomplishments
  • Works with all required functions and groups to effectively plan and execute the project or program
  • Responsible for representing the client as an OPM as needed, managing third parties as a client representative


Minimum Requirements

Education BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Mechanical PE registration is preferred. BS degrees/PE registrations in other engineering disciplines may be substituted. Other Technical or Business degrees with equivalent experience may be substituted.

Experience



  • A minimum of 15 years of experience is preferred including project management and/or running a profit and loss engineering business unit. A background in business development is highly desirable. Strong leadership and client relations skills required
  • Experience managing, and directly executing industrial mechanical engineering projects in both process and facilities applications including industrial process optimization, equipment design and integration, heat transfer and thermal management, fluid dynamics and piping, safety and sustainability.


Travel Expectation Travel of approximately 20% is expected. Travel includes customer job-site visits, customer marketing presentations, and applicable conference attendance. A valid driver license for local travel is required.

Physical Demands of Position Seeing, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, ability to travel distances.

Working Environment Standard office environment: frequent use of personal computer along with miscellaneous office equipment. Customer site expectations include ability to visit and walk/navigate safely industrial jobsites for proposal preparation and project status reviews.

Salary range is $170,000 to $220,000 annually depending on qualifications plus a performance-based bonus program in addition to the benefits listed above.
