Laboratory Supervisor - Anatomical Pathology

General Summary of Position
Maintains appropriate laboratory operations. Secures staffing, maintains policy and procedural protocols, and resolves problems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises responsible section of the lab on designated shift, ensuring adequate staffing and appropriate workload management.
  • Prepares work schedules and evaluates personnel performance.
  • Directs, controls and implements special projects as assigned.
  • Communicates status, issues and other pertinent information to the Section Manager and other Supervisors (as appropriate) on a continual basis.
  • Reviews daily activity reports appropriate to Section supervised.
  • Monitors collection, identification, transport and storage of laboratory specimens.
  • Resolves problems arising between the laboratory and physicians, nursing and other ancillary services.
  • Conducts training sessions for laboratory personnel regarding policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of subordinate personnel in response to workload and/or staffing demands.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required or
    • Master's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required or
    • Doctoral degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required or
    • Doctoral degree in Medicine required

    Experience

    • 1-2 years of progressively more responsible clinical laboratory experience for applicants with a Bachelor's degree required or
    • 1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience for applicants with a M.D degree, or Master's or PhD degree required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist certification for Bachelor's degree holders who supervise technical staff. required
    • The ASCP certification requirement is waived for applicants who supervise non-technical staff only, or those with a M.D degree, or with a Master's or PhD degree. required


    This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $157,289
