JOB SUMMARY:
Under moderate supervision primarily responsible for the review and analysis of inpatient medical record documentation and based on official coding guidelines apply ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes to render appropriate reimbursement and meet regulatory coding requirements for inpatient services rendered in an acute care hospital facility. Focus on Medical and Surgical encounters, and supporting the coding of Diagnostic Radiology, Orthopedic, Spine & Vascular encounters, and ability to work Inpatient Billing and CHIME Edits. Responsibilities include: * Applies extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic and procedural terminology to determine the appropriate assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes for all types of IP accounts. * Analyzes medical records using the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS), interprets documentation and assigns proper International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnoses and ICD-10-Procedural Classification System (PCS) operative procedure codes utilizing designated software to included Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) and/or encoder, coding manuals and other reference material. * Reviews DRG assigned to each record. Enters coded/abstracted information into software, analyzes DRG groupings, and observes for appropriate DRG assignment. * Codes all types of cases including the most complex. * Adheres to all department coding procedures, policies, guidelines, and quality standards. * Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association/American Association of Procedural Coders and adheres to official coding guidelines. * Meets revenue cycle goals (Key Performance Indicators) * Manages the coding and IP edit work queues * Completes reviews of denials and combined accounts JOB QUALIFICATIONS * Experience: 2-5 years of inpatient coding experience. Level 1 trauma experience highly preferred. * Licensure: CCS certification required. * Skills: Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding conventions, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, federal regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and billing. * Solid understanding of CPT and HCPCS coding preferred. * Must be able to remain calm under pressure, this is a high-volume fast-paced position. Details: * Pay cycle - weekly | medical, dental, and vision benefits offered. * 100% Remote * Schedule: Monday - Friday | Flexible start time between 7am - 8:30am EST (40 hours per week) *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
