Job Description

AltaGas is seeking an individual with a demonstrated passion and interest in procurement, strategic sourcing and supply chain management to fill a Category Manager III role within our Supply Chain Management (SCM) team. You will be responsible for managing assigned spend categories, related business unit partners and suppliers, and other internal relationships (e.g., Legal, AP, Risk, Audit, etc.), ensuring the organization has the necessary goods and services needed to run the business effectively and efficiently to deliver value for our customers and other stakeholders.

While this position will primarily support the US Utilities segment of our business, currently comprised of Washington Gas Light Company (WGL) and SEMCO, it is part of our broader, shared services SCM team within the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) organization. This position is based out of the SEMCO Energy Headquarters in Port Huron, Michigan. It is a hybrid role, currently requiring at least 3 days a week in the office.

You Will:

  • The Category Manager III will work collaboratively with SCM leadership and assigned business units to develop and maintain annual Category Plans, including spend and supply market analysis, should-cost modeling, opportunity and risk assessments, initiative prioritization, sourcing strategy identification, creation of the associated sourcing calendar, and target setting (e.g. value creation, hard and soft dollar benefits, etc.).
  • Work to execute the plans and other ad hoc requests to achieve the targets through the identified strategies (e.g., RFx / competitive bid processes, direct supplier negotiations, demand management, etc.).
  • You will be expected to lead the negotiating and contracting process, remain compliant with policies and procedures, appropriately mitigate risks, calculate financial and other business impacts.
  • Summarize and route initiative outcomes and contract documents for approval, provide effective stakeholder management, coordinate with internal partners to align on business and contractual requirements, draft contract amendments, change orders, SOWs and manage key supplier relationships.
  • Monitor and evaluate category performance, leveraging key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement continuous improvement or corrective measures as appropriate.
  • As an experienced member of the SCM team, the Category Manager III is also expected to help provide leadership and mentorship, including directing the work of any Strategic Sourcing and Contract Specialists assigned. You will be expected to contribute innovative ideas and solutions to improve SCM operations, performance and impact over time.

In this role, it is expected that you will attend relevant meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and review relevant professional materials to remain current on the principles, practices and new developments within the procurement, strategic sourcing and supply chain management career field, and bring these concepts and ideas back to the team.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Business, Finance or Supply Chain Management focus preferred)
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience
  • Passion, interest and /or experience in procurement, strategic sourcing and SCM as a career
  • Deep understanding of Category Management and Strategic Sourcing frameworks and strategies
  • Strong understanding of common contract terms and conditions, and demonstrated experience leading contract negotiations
  • Ability to think analytically and strategically, listen, be curious and ask good questions
  • Ability to perform pricing and other financial analysis
  • Takes initiative, able to prioritize, manage their time, and support multiple projects
  • Able to deal with ambiguity
  • Ability to collaborate, develop and maintain good working relationships with teammates, business partners and supplier contacts
  • Willingness to flex and support teammates and emergent needs when required
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, able to present to large groups, including senior management, and appropriately apply influence to affect desired outcomes

We offer a competitive salary range of $82,000 to $ 118,750 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
