An experienced legal practitioner, the Senior Counsel, Energy Systems provides comprehensive, high-quality, timely, and practical advice to internal clients primarily in the Westinghouse Energy Systems (new plants) Business Unit. regarding commercial customer contracts, claims, strategic legal issues, and related matters. This role works closely with internal clients at all management levels and in-house colleagues in accomplishing this objective. Actively manages and oversees outside counsel when necessary. The primary focus will be new plant matters in North America, but this role supports the global Energy Systems business and may involve matters in the United Kingdom, Europe, and elsewhere.

Your Day to Day:



  • Provide legal support as a strategic partner to the Energy Systems (new plants) business unit commercial team. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, teaming agreements, and related documents, advising on the response to proposals, and related legal advice, primarily in North America but potentially in other jurisdictions worldwide.
  • Provide prompt, practical, and risk-informed advice and counsel to internal clients on customer and supplier contracts including engineering, procurement and construction agreements, teaming agreements and joint ventures, engineering services agreements and feasibility studies. This role will represent the company in commercial negotiations and disputes, interfacing and negotiating with opposing counsel representing utilities, project developers, construction partners, and others.
  • Consistent with the Westinghouse Global Ethics Code and governance policies, facilitate the company's business objectives while maintaining compliance with laws and regulations and appropriately minimizing commercial legal risks. Engage with legal, compliance, and finance specialists to mitigate risks to the company in the areas of ethics, antibribery, antitrust, trade compliance and export controls, sanctions, data privacy, regulatory, labor & employment, tax, environment, health and safety matters, and if necessary in government enforcement process.
  • Partners with business clients to achieve the best possible results for Westinghouse, consistent with legal requirements and business objectives. Effectively interface with a wide range of internal clients and colleagues, including business leaders, other in-house attorneys, contracts and commercial affairs professionals, supply chain, finance, tax, engineering, licensing, and compliance.
  • Work closely with and manage outside counsel in the United States and worldwide to ensure effective and efficient representation of Westinghouse in disputes and other matters.
  • Remain current on legal developments within scope of responsibilities and provide updates to clients as warranted. Develop and implement policies and programs and conduct training on legal issues as necessary for the business.
  • Provide legal advice on other matters as may arise in the course of business.



Who You Are:



  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice in a US jurisdiction is required. If not currently admitted in Pennsylvania, a successful candidate would need to have the ability to be licensed in Pennsylvania.
  • 5+ years of experience representing clients in commercial contract negotiations and/or litigation matters, either in-house at an international company, in a law firm, or both.
  • Successful candidate will have experience in providing legal advice on the full scope of commercial business issues.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE


    • Engineering, procurement, and construction contract negotiation experience.
